I'll need to see the Irish Peeler commercial 5 or 6 more times to make an accurate comparison, but the spurtle is definitely the hardest working tool in my kitchen, and I don't think the Irish Peeler is going to change that anytime soon.

Since you can buy the Irish Peeler online for under a dollar with free shipping, does that complicate things a bit?

Of course it's the Irish Peeler . The Spurtle is so 3 weeks ago.

Some would say the Spurtle is timeless though. The Spurtle dates back to the 15th century. There were probably some on the Mayflower.

Spurtle. It’s not even close.

Any Southeast Asian trinket factory staffed by malnourished children can spit out a million peelers a day and call them “ultimate Irish.”
Spurtles are heirloom quality hardwood implements that will contain trans-generational microflora sufficient to impart that special something to family baking recipes much like rolling pins, etc. I use a 1000-year-old spurtle to make my Pillsbury Grands cinnamon rolls every morning and I can tell the difference.

I would imagine that Pillsbury Grands cinnamon rolls would taste way better with a Spurtle used as opposed to some other utensil.

Plus you can beat your kids with it. They never know whether it is cinnamon rolls or a spanking. Spurtles are just so versitile.

I'm trying to think if I have ever needed to peel a to-mah-to. That could very well be the deciding factor for me.
