We used to hit all the reclaimed coal pits in southern Indiana. Had to drag a small jon boat with trolling motor to a lot of them but we were rewarded with 3-5lb’ers all day. Make mission, go fishin was our motto.

Reminds me of going back to the lily pads at the far end of Issaqueena. Was usually tough to get back there, but you were much more likely to be rewarded back there.
