Have learned that people and organizations with a lot of $$$$... don't really like to lose it as a rule.
A lesson I'll likely never get to use for myself!

Because Stanford alumni would largely be furious if the university started diverting endowment funds into the athletic department.

Women's fencing

Re: Stanford has a $27+ Billion endowment...Why Cut 11 Sports?

Jul 8, 2020, 11:36 PM

I am the executor of an endowment at Clemson established when a friend of mine passed away a few years ago. Her will stated the money she left to Clemson was to support the university libraries. That is the only place that money can be used and under direction of the courts who reviewed the disposition of her assests, that is where it must stay. Most large endowments are set up like that - by design.

is endowment must grow. Secondly, the competition in those sports are probably folding. Lastly, IMO, Stanford is the premier university in the world, at least in technology innovation, so who cares about their sports. I have always been impressed that they field a competitive team in football the last decade.

I said same thing on P&R board before the article came out, except didn't know how many billions it was! None of these bastions of liberalism and elitism will spend their endowment except to promote themselves.
