We Need To Do More...

Apr 27, 2022, 12:02 PM

For our guys moving onto the next level.

With our social media powerhouse - why do we not package together professional-level highlight reels & marketing campaigns for our players that declare for the NFL?

It saddens me to no limit to see our guys still sitting at home, waiting on that life-changing call that never seems to come. Diondre Overton deserves a shot. There’s one highlight reel of him on YouTube uploaded since last season and it only shows his breakout game against Boston College. Gage Cervenka deserves a shot. There’s literally nothing on YouTube worthy of sharing or linking back to.

Why aren’t we spending more time promoting our guys like this? Given the quarantine, we should have been pumping out reel-after-reel since last month to help with exposure. Sorry for the long post. It just kills me to see players from D2 colleges, who’ve never seen top-10 competition, getting opportunities before Clemson guys with 5+ rings and an entire social media behemoth behind them. They deserve it and we owe them that much.

My guess is that the NFL has looked at all the guys in advance of the draft. They know who best fits their team and it’s needs. We went through this with Boulware a few years ago. Occasionally a free agent makes it big... but rarely.

I hate if for these guys too...but

the NFL is not going to be convinced by a highlight tape. The NFL scouts are more interested in every down tape against the toughest competition of which they have plenty available in college football. In addition to film, they talk to coaches and opposing coaches about players in order to get an accurate picture of the player.

The NFL is a business - striking out on a player costs the business money and there is only so much risk and roster space they can afford to take on players that "deserve a chance". There is a good reason very few of these undrafted free agents make it in the NFL...

"Diondre Overton deserves a shot. " - I could not agree more. Overton was over-shadowed by Tee and Ross along with some other great receivers. Some team would be getting a steal with him IMO.

btw: 3 TD's in that one game is hard to do. Somebody in the NFL ain't watching.
