I guess this makes sense why MTV replayed the REM

Nov 14, 2017, 4:14 PM

special last night about 1:00 am when I couldn't sleep. I watched it for a while and Michael Stipe didn't seem near as weird as I remembered him. I don't remember REM bring the "biggest, most important rock band in America", but maybe I just wasn't paying attention.

And is this what English majors learn in college? To be wordy and pick lyrics out and make them sound really important, when Stipe simply used the words to rhyme with the next line?

AFTP wasn't even their best album.

I'd give the nod to Reckoning or Fables of the Reconstruction

That's all the REM anyone needed to hear really.

Murmur and Reckoning were both very good records.

I liked Green personally because they got a little more rock-oriented on that one, but the Chronic Town EP is still by far my favorite and set the tone for 'college radio' for years. Most of their work after Reckoning (in my best Peter Griffin voice) insists upon itself.

No doubt their best stuff was released in the '80's

first four were the best, imo.

There were some good albums from '92 like RATM's

self-titled, 40 Oz to Freedom, The Chronic and Alice in Chains Dirt. Not sure I'd put REM above those others.

Life's Rich Pageant is my personal favorite

onliest REM album that I truly love every song.

REM sings are hit/miss for me - many, many I love, but there are some I panic to get out of the room/car if the song is playing.
