I was thinking the same thing when I saw that the ACC had suspended all Athletic events. The first season for the program and this virus stuff happens.Hopefully it's just a case of suspending for a short time and won't end up where the season for all spring sports will then at some point be canceled altogether.

I would say it's likely the NCAA will extend another year of eligibility to student-athletes who were in the middle of their seasons.

“uncharted territory”? Did they suspend athletics for Zika (winter 2016) , H1N1 (2009, the last time WHO declared a global pandemic), bird flu (2003)?
I don’t remember it if they did!
This must be worse than all of those! Somehow, I don’t think so. What could it be?

Miss a season or miss a loved one... which would you prefer?

Mar 12, 2020, 8:18 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: ACC suspends all athletic-related activities ]

Unlike those events where the leadership was ahead of the curve in most of the cases, we are behind the 8-ball with #### poor testing for the advanced notice we had about this. You can thank the head executive for slashing the section in charge of infectious disease control two years ago simply because it was instituted by the last president.

The infection rate of this virus while lower than the flu is much less obvious due to symptoms which may or may not appear depending on the individual. Thus a person can be a healthy carrier and infect the susceptible. And here's where it gets bad for sports fans, you get up close and personal with other fans as soon as you head into the stadium. Lines of people going in, going to get snacks, going to the bathroom, sitting in the bleachers, exiting the stadium. We all have seen plenty of fans attend their favorite team's outing even when sick... we might have even done it because we didn't feel all that bad. Right now most epidemiologists suggest to err on the side of caution because transmission is the key to battling this stuff.

While as sports fans we may dislike such actions, would you prefer to see your favorite players sick, or a coach hospitalized or one of their families infected? And that's not even considering the thousands of fans who could contract the infection. Right now there are people who don't know where they got it, they didn't travel or come into contact with someone who did... but they have it.

So lets be clear, there isn't one of us fans who want's to get sick nor transmit the virus, so lets not get upset when our favorite College puts our welfare and the welfare of their sports teams first.

Yes if he wouldn't have cut the CDCs budget they would have created a cure before this thing even started. GTFO with that crap. I have heard enough of its Trumps fault. I don't like the man much but he is our President and deserves some respect. It's okay to blame him for legit stuff but you cannot blame him for everything that happens.

Yes, I have spent at least an hour the past three days at work trying to order hand sanitizer. We'll get a confirmation, than a cancellation hours later. I can hardly wait to see if i have to sign off credit card charges and credits for every attempt.
