Vegas trip

Me and wife are planning Vegas trip next October/November. Never been. Any tips or ideas on where to stay etc? Like gambling, shopping, etc.
Like the Caesars palace resort from what I can see online. Will be flying out of GSP. Rental car? Plan on staying 5 nights. Is that enough?
Serious and not serious replies welcome.

Caesars runs some good specials if you're looking for cheap hotel rooms. Don't gamble at Caesars resorts, worst odds on the strip.
This site tells you which casino has the best odds for each game. http://wizardofvegas.com/surveys/
Don't rent a car. $7 shuttle from the airport to strip hotels. I'm flying United from GSP to Vegas in January.

Stayed at new York new york. Echo earlier thoughts no point in renting car. We taxied to places.like bellagio and spearmint rhino etc. 5 days is a long time, Vegas can get quite tiresome after a few days. We had fun going to shows, great restaurants, little roulette and blackjack. Some of the best people watching in the world. Have fun.

Uber is now in Vegas so you might not need a car unless you want to sightsee (hoover ###, red rock canyon, valley of fire, Pahrump for the bordellos - they do 3-somes I hear)

5 nights in Vegas?

Either you guys plan on taking it really slow or really fast. You should hit Vegas hard and get the F out. 2-3 nights max. No need for a rental car unless you want to make the short drive out to Depressville. To get there, just head 15 minutes in any direction.
My other suggestion would be to ditch your wife for the majority of the trip and coordinate a bromeeting. Start the night with a sausagefest and end with a creampie. You can't do that with your wife.

A few tips....

Depending on what the wife likes, 5 nights could be good or bad. I've done 24 hours in vegas, and up to 9 days. I'd say 3-4 is probably optimal, but can vary depending on how well you're doing at the tables. If your wife wants to see multiple shows, 5 nights is probably a good number for the trip, but expect to lay out $150 per show minimum, more if you want better seats. Also, when booking online, remember that when you get to the hotel, there will be a resort fee of $25-$35/nt added on to your bill.
If you're staying on the strip, a rental car is probably an unnecessary expense, and an unnecessary risk. If you stay at MGM or the Linq, you can easily hop on the monorail to ride between the two, or all the way up to Westgate and SLS is you want. There is also a free tram between treasure island and the mirage and another between the bellagio and aria/monte carlo. You can take a taxi for most of the rest. Coming in from the airport, make sure you tell the cabbie as you get in, "[Hotel Name], No tunnel." Other wise, you might be long hauled and see what should be a $20 cab ride be $30-$40.
As for Hotels My list would be:
MGM Grand Cosmopolitan Aria Mirage Linq Caesar's/Bellagio NYNY Monte Carlo
Would not recommend: Luxor Excalibur Harrah's Casino Royale
Any thing else is up in the air.
Restaurants:
Here are my personal favorites:
Steak: Tom Colicchio's Heritage Steak @ the mirage (try the tobasco peppered kobe beef skirt steak) Pizza: Five50 pizza in the Aria. Grab a slice of the Gotham from the counter, or sit down for dinner. either way, it's great. Breakfast: Hash House a go-go in the linq. Everything is good there.
Fancy Dinner: Joel Robuchon. Asian/Thai: Lotus of Siam - it's off-strip, but worth the trip. Buffet: Wicked Spoon or the Aria Buffet. Both are absolutely phenomenal. Unless you want to be severely disappointed by other buffets, do not eat at another one after eating at these two.
Snack: The Fried Oreos at Mermaids on Freemont street.
