so let's unveil the liberal hysteria for what it is....

Jan 29, 2017, 8:08 AM

"no one cares about what will happen to my house" -

banks cannot take back a home under mortgage in 90 days. Fact.

"no one cares about my dog" -

communication hasn't been cancelled obviously, and one hopes after 7 years she has friends. Fact.

So why the hysteria? Why the rhetoric?

Why do liberals always have to over-emphasize emotions

and play the sensationalist media card?

Do you people NOT understand that this tactic continues

to thwart forward movement on real problems for this country?

Until your emotional control gets better

little can be done to move forward to real solutions for this country?

Or do you disagree that the 9/11 terrorists had all lived in this country prior to the attacks?

Or do you disagree that this country has been inundated with illegal immigration for the last 20 years?

Please, go ahead, ignore the facts, wallow in your media-fueled emotional outbursts...

Jan 29, 2017, 8:40 AM [ in reply to so let's unveil the liberal hysteria for what it is.... ]

Liberals "over-emphasize emotions"? Are you familiar with the term "hypocrisy"? Conservatives have been playing the fear/anger/outrage card on everything from guns, to abortion, to gay marriage, to the "war on christmas", and everything in between for decades.

Let me help you with some facts:

NONE of the 9/11 hijackers came from the countries that are now banned (for 90 days). None of them. Zero. Nada. Zilch. FACT.

We have not had illegal immigrants from those countries either (at least not like you are accusing them of; they aren't sneaking over borders from 15k miles away). FACT.

What is sad is the number of people with your mindset that are supposedly Christians. Where is your sense of empathy? What would Jesus do? Probably not anything like what you people espouse these days....

I'm not a fan of Trump generally, but how do you know this to be a FACT?

How are you so sure that people from "those countries" who may want to do harm to Americans, haven't flown into Cuba, caught a boat to Mexico, and walked across our porous boarder like so many do every day?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: so let's unveil the liberal hysteria for what it is....

Jan 29, 2017, 9:08 AM

This guy appears to be confused in his fear of brown people. We have millions of undocumented immigrants from across our southern border, not from the middle east.

Statistically, it's likely a safe assumption that there are people from most countries (worldwide) here illegally. And I'm sure there's somebody here that fits the criteria for your specific entry method. But if they are going to that much trouble, let's just say I don't think blocking travel from 7 countries is going to deter them.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

did I say "illegal immigrants" came from Arab countries?

Jan 29, 2017, 10:22 AM

No.

Please read my comment again and tell me where I specifically said illegal immigrants came from Arab countries.

Or conversely where I said that illegal immigration ONLY came from Mexico.

Or where I said illegal immigration was characterized by people of ONLY or even MOSTLY of people with DARK(ER) skin.

Or where I tied ANY of this to Christ, whom I consider my Savior.

Nor did I even suggest that I agree with Trump's plan, per se, much less all relevant details of the plan.

Nor did I even mention that I did NOT vote for Trump.

My comment was simply to suggest that IMMIGRATION ()as a whole, not just illegal) was a problem that Liberals have not

and quite apparently can not solve.

You're the bigot, sir, not me. You set yourself up by presuming a ton of things that simply are not true -

you let your EMOTIONS run away with you,

which was exactly my point....

Jan 29, 2017, 10:44 AM

> Please read my comment again and tell me where I specifically said illegal immigrants came from Arab countries.

You're backtracking.

This entire post is regarding the bans from the 7 middle eastern countries.

In your first reply, you said this:

> Or do you disagree that this country has been
> inundated with illegal immigration for the last 20
> years?

So, as the thread is regarding those 7 countries, and you brought up illegal immigration "for the last 20 years", I'm left to assume that's what you are referring to.

Further, you seem to be unaware that there have been no americans killed by people from those 7 countries in the last 20 years. So what, exactly, is this "security measure" helping?

I don't necessarily support Trump and didn't vote for him.

My point was LIBERAL EXTREMISM, RHETORIC, and BIGOTRY.

They think they can't be bigoted or violent -

which is why they are even MORE bigoted than 1830's slave owners.

1830's slave owners suffered under the lack of eduction, poor scientific knowledge about DNA

Post-Vietnam Liberals show themselves every day to be simply too arrogant to gain self-perspective,

Of course liberals (and every other large labeled group, including conservatives, libertarians, christians, muslims, etc) has bigots, and has members that are prone to violence. And then to somehow equate "liberals" with slave owners is just downright ridiculous. Rewriting history much?

The 9/11 hijackers did not "live" in this country. You need to check your facts. They came to this country for a time to train for the plot. A specific intent from before they came here. That is NOT "living" in this country. They were part of Al-Qaeda, started in the Sudan, but have strong ties to all of the listed countries. If anything, this 90 day ban does not go far enough.

As a relatively conservative guy who typically votes republican, I can't speak for liberal (democratic) emotionalism, nor can I speak for conservative (republican) emotionalism. I saw a LOT of both in the most recent election. Both parties' rhetoric seemed to appeal to fear and hate.

I like the idea of controlling immigration and was hopeful that Trump may help on that front, but this policy strikes me as something to appease rather than actually accomplish anything.

As far as I know, this woman was here legally, as I suspect most are who live in this country, visit their home countries and return. Afterall, passpot control in an airport is the LAST place an illegal immigrant would want to find themselves.

Yes, the 9/11 terrorists all lived in this country prior to the attack. None were from the countries on the "blocked" list. I suppose I would buy this policy as something other than appeasement if that weren't so. Seems based on emotion to me.

This is embarassing to me because our government allowed her to come here and live here. In return, she has been productive, followed the rules and improved herself. Now, seemingly arbitrarily, our government is telling her that she can't come home because she is in Iran. Seems bizarre. Trumpesque.

You're still a moron, clearly.

The executive order blocks entry from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

The 9/11 hijackers are from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, and Lebanon.

See the problem here?

Trump banned a whole bunch of countries he has no business interests in, in the name of "national security", and conveniently left out the countries where the actual attackers came from. Never mind the fact that he has business interests in at least 3 of those countries (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and UAE).

That is what's going to end up happening...probably sooner than later.

It needs to be sooner.

You are talking to a 6-year Army vet who served this country domestically and abroad. Son of a Vietnam vet. Used my GI Bill to attend Clemson University.

What have you done lately?

Trump is. Don't be fooled. He's Trump with better hair. He's still the nitwit who tried to force women in Indiana to pay for funeral costs for miscarriages.

But sadly, he still is the more stable of the two.

No one is above the law. Why have borders and why have an Immigration department IF you don't enforce borders. Become legal and then travel. Plain and simple.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think that is the issue.

Jan 29, 2017, 10:53 AM

What about when they have a valid visa and they just went to visit their family abroad? Should we not let them return?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Love it!!!

Jan 29, 2017, 12:10 PM

I for one am glad to see other Liberals fighting back on this thread. Any conservative that calls himself a Christian and support 45's Executive Order ..call yourself something else. This is not Christian Like or American. We have a lot of people calling themselves Patriots but dont hold up to the ideals of what being an American is all about.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think of myself as a liberal

Jan 29, 2017, 12:33 PM

But I also like to think I'm not an idiot.

Our country was in need of major surgery before the last election. Our choices came down to a doctor who treated every problem with aroma therapy and coloring books and a doctor who only operates with a chain saw.

I wished then and I wish now that we had had a choice who knew how to use a scalpel.

And no, I am definitely NOT talking about Ben Carson. Every time I hear him talk I suspect he has used the scalpel on himself and it didn't work out well.

people are quick to forget Carter did

Jan 29, 2017, 12:32 PM

Same thing in banning Iranian immigrants in 1980. Hardly think of Carter and Trumps political leanings as same but it happened.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Carter's actions probably fell short of the mark

Jan 29, 2017, 12:39 PM

because there was a definite cause and effect in his action. The new Iranian government had in fact, carried out what was arguably an act of war against our country.

For Carter's action to be same as Trump's, however, he would have had to ban Egyptian nationals from coming to the US instead of Iranians.

The 9/11 terrorists came here from Saudi Arabia. Guess who isn't on Trump's list?

Also, did Carter's ban include people who were already legal residents of this country and completely innocent of any crime?

Re: Trump policy plays out and hits close to home

Jan 29, 2017, 1:04 PM

Why in the world did she go to Iran After she knew the ban was going into effect???

She states that "everything she worked for the last 7 years is gone", Well, actually, No. She was working to receive her PhD for 7 years, she received it and still has it! No one is taking that away.

I hope this temporary ban will be refined and the 100+ still being questioned will be resolved soon. The USA needs a better system to protect our citizens as well as those immigrants truly needing refuge.

We are a caring and compassionate country. ??

What exactly is embarrassing?
We are at war!!! We did not start the war, radical Islamist started the war!
During times of war a nation takes steps to protect its citizens .
Just because someone graduated from Clemson does not exclude them from the law!
Liberals and millennials and snowflakes wake up!!
Islam wants to kill anyone who is not one of them.!!!!!!

It's a sad time in America. The most disgusting displays are from those who are against refugees but have the nerve to say their position is based in their Christianity. It's a slap in the face of everything Christ stood for.

Jesus was very concerned with refugees and you are to help your fellow man even if it compromises your safety (which it doesn't).

America is at a point of reckoning. Refugees (78% of whom are women and children who have no means to defend themselves against genocide) will be left to die in places like Syria. Don't speak out against refugees if you wouldn't have the guts to put a gun to a child's head and pull the trigger yourself. You'll be judged no differently for doing it yourself vs. sitting idly by while it is done by others.

It's disgusting. Unfortunately many on this board would only care if she were a 5 star recruit.

Or a non Muslim.

Jan 29, 2017, 3:02 PM

It really all comes down to the fact that the people who don't care about this young lady, who is a peaceful, Clemson grad, and who is part of the community, they really don't care because she is a Muslim. The only word that matters to them is "Muslim". The conversation stops there.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We are at war?

Jan 29, 2017, 3:10 PM

GTFOH... if we are then why continue to fund Islamic Countries like Saudi Arabia. I will be blunt. Trump supporters are dumb..they ront take the time to research anything..and any data they discredit not with more data..they discredit with a Trump talking point. If we are at war and we keep giving Saudi Money...you know the hijackers on 9/11 were Saudis! Lets not be nice Trump supporters are the most scared people on the planet. And that fear leads to electing people who capitalize on that fear ..all the while knowimg that this idiot will cause more havoc on us across the world.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I just think they tried to oversimplify a..

complicated issue.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

FYI, she is here completely legally.

Jan 29, 2017, 3:35 PM

Dr. Zinouri is here legally, 100%. She is on an F-1 Visa, and was granted Optional Practical Training (OPT), which allows her to work in the USA after graduation. She did NOT overstay her visa. Her company legally hired her. She is in violation of absolutely no law whatsoever.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optional_Practical_Training

Some of you are assuming that she overstayed her visa because it says "student visa" and she graduated. I know that's confusing, but in fact the OPT route is what a great many international students do after they graduate. So her case is not the least bit unusual, it's not something where she's violating a rule that we're just now enforcing...none of that.

Dr. Zinouri is also a proud Clemson graduate. I hope you'll consider having some compassion for one of our own, regardless of your politics. She simply left to see her family for a few days and wanted to come back to her job and life here.

Thanks for reading. I feel like I have to stand up for a fellow Tiger here.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But she is Muslim. *****

I hope and pray she can return to The USA SOON and obtain citizenship in the near future. I'm proud of what she has accomplished and wish her the best.
I am also in favor of tightening our borders and in doing so, some toes will be stepped on.
GOD, PLEASE BLESS AMERICA

Just like the taxes I pay every year some people have to suffer for the better of the Country.
You see I have worked my whole life and been blessed with good jobs.
So I have to pay for people that are not worth a chit and will not work.
This is the same principle not everyone's going to be happy but some stuff has to be done .
Protecting our borders is much more important than the inconvenience this lady is going through.
