This liberal is confused ...

Sep 21, 2020, 3:57 PM

Meanwhile in Sweden ...

Granted the Country is the size of California and only has a quarter of its population BUT, most of the population is concentrated in a few large cities like Stockholm and few others which I can't remember ... Is the problem really, the USA population is largely composed of riff-raff with no common sense or is that strong Nordic stock and that fish they eat soaked in .... bleach ? Maybe that bleach fish kills those little virus buggers ... bleach will kill anything.

One of the worst mortality rates of any country. Far worse that the US.

They had a real bad three weeks, temporarily got their hospitals overrun...and then it was done.

They probably achieved close to herd immunity in the process, at least, for however long COVID immunity lasts. Six months, maybe? A year? Uncertain right now.

Sweden got away with it - sort of - because their health-care system was a lot better than ours, and they're on average a lot healthier than we are...and their population is only 10 million, which is, as mentioned, largely concentrated in a few cities.

So they got a big wave, took a hard hit...and now it's over for them, at least for awhile. Was it worth it? You'd have to ask the Swedes that, but I'd say they'd mostly think it was.

The problem is we've got almost 330 million to their 10 and our health care and health metrics aren't nearly as good as theirs, so we're probably talking 500K or even a million deaths if we'd tried that approach here.

I've never thought comparisons between a nation the size...

Sep 21, 2020, 5:10 PM [ in reply to Re: Lutz. Weren't they just telling us how bad Sweden handled it ]

of the US and nations as small as EU countries were legitimate comparisons. I'd compare one EU nation to one US state to get better compare/contrast subjects for discussion.

Actually, many EU nations had massive numbers of Wuhan travelers entering the country about the same time NY and NJ did. When US restricted casual travel from China the EU took another hit from those leaving China and coming to the US via Europe which remained unrestricted for a week or so.

Imo, each state should consider the lapse of time between the virus being discovered in WA and when it make it to their state. SC, for instance, had the benefit of seeing new england's mistakes and the benefits of the medicine and medical methods which were determined to be effective in dealing with the virus.

The world was infected before we knew about the virus. Imo, there are too many variables to compare any nation to another, the most obvious variable is testing qualities, quantities and reporting accuracies.

The Experts knew the size and general health of Sweden’s population, yet were screaming bloody murder trying to terrify everyone. For some unknown reason.

Hate to say it, but COVID thins the herd of the weakest members. If you are fat with diabetes, you should post haste do the atkins diet to save your life.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
