Several bowl games already struggle just to break even...

and at least 15 to 20 teams per season lose money attending bowl games.

That said, due to COVID and the prospect of no tickets sales revenue, I suspect a lot of the bowl games may not be played this year while some other teams may opt out of going.

Take the Holiday Bowl for example. It generally matches a team from the Slack 12 and the Big 10. Well...neither league is playing this year so, under the circumstances, why would some team from the south or southeast travel all the way to San Diego for some meaningless bowl game played in a dump of a stadium.
