Mini- split HVAC residential systems

Jan 6, 2021, 9:10 AM

Trying to decide between conventional forced air system and mini split. Anyone have experience with ms systems? Any real world pros and cons other than cost?

They work in small electrical rooms and small areas

Think of it like a window unit in terms of practicality of a house.

I have a mini split but I wish I had a conventional

system in my 500 sqft bonus room.

Apparently, there isn't a small enough system for 500 sqft.

My split system is 6.5 years old, LG. The inside unit had to be replaced 2.5 years ago. I had 3 other repairs/leaking refrigerant prior to that around $200/ea.

My total spent so far:
$2,500 buy and install
$1,200 buy and replace inside unit
$600 in repairs

Mine is located over the couch so hot or cold air is always blowing on you and produces some noise.

I would prefer conventional just because it is less noticeable. I'm sure the mini split is more energy efficient though.

Wow! That's a lot of fixing. Looks like that's a check mark in the forced air column. Thanks for responding

with Teams. It's meh. Kind of annoying, but also another way to track down some corporate slacker working from home that's too busy doing dishes or whatevs to answer the phone or email.
