I keep thinking it's a penalty flag.

Cleat bottoms, gloves, etc.

My old eyes are too slow for that mess

I've always thought the flags should be green so it doesn't distract from the uniforms

Green might be a stretch. Even Seattle wears that hyper green neon color.

I said that exact thing last night. There was one player who had bright yellow gloves and I thought on several occasions that a flag had been thrown. I'm glad it's not just me!
