CU fans should feel good about 2019 team

Jan 19, 2019, 1:01 PM

All Tiger fans need to do is look at the past list of recruits over the last 10-15 years. So many were rated "4 stars" or "3 stars" - & Dabo & staff developed a ton of them into "5 star" players when all was said & done.

Many "5 star" recruits DID prove to be just that. What's amazing is the number of 4 & 3 star players that became some of the very best in the country.

It's how they were developed - and the fact that they were likely underrated in the first place. Clemson knows how to spot talent - many "ranking services" obviously don't.

I'm not worried a bit about who's coming in & who's already here. They'll all be just fine under the program's guidance.

Acvtually 3 stars just aren't ready as freshmen

Some coaching staffs really don't coach em up, their players never rise above their high school rankings.

Clemson staff ,as you said, CAN coach em up.

I think that we can be just as good or better next season than this past season. There was plenty of depth on D that will be back with good Fresh and Soph player that will be ready to step up for the making of another if not great, a very good top 10 D, and with the experience level of the true Fresh just getting better with those that didn't see the field that much on offense, I believe without a doubt, our offense will be much better next season than they were last season. I don't see any reason that we can't be in the NCG again and win it again next season. Gooo Tigersss, and lets be Back to Back 15-0 NC winners for 2019-2020, we can do this again!!!!

There is only 25-30 “5 stars” a year. Not all of them

Jan 19, 2019, 1:37 PM

Pan out either, so the majority of all players are 3 and 4 stars

The statistics do show that a 5-star kid is more likely to make it to the next level than a 4 star, who in turn is far more likely to make it than a 3 star.

The evaluations aren't "wrong" - they just don't account for everything.

2014 Class - 247Sports Composite

5-star: 33 (57.6%)
4-star: 296 (23.6%)
3-star: 1,541 (6.9%)
2-star: 1,666 (1.1%)

“Clemson wasn’t that much better with Trevor Lawrence, if at all.”

rate of 3 stars in the league than the national average though. We really do a good job of developing talent.

It’s true player development is more important than overall Stars and we have had some diamonds in the rough.
You still need those 5* studs to win the NC, like TL, And our host of WRs. Not to mention players like Wilkins etc...

Clemson operates a bit differently.

First and foremost Clemson needs a stud QB. After that DL and WR.

If we have that we can win multiple NCs with more or just as many 3 stars as 4 and 5 stars as shown recently.

as for 2019 we got TL, Ross, Higgins, XT as cornerstones. So that works.

In 2020 recruiting we already got a stud DT. Now the focus should be 1-2 elite WR, DJ and Burch. Get them and we looking real good in the future as well.

We need lockdown corners

Jan 19, 2019, 5:14 PM

so that the LBs and Safeties can run all over the field
