Thank God Ron DeSantis, Florida's Governor, is not giving into this. He is taking the political approach to distribution and not the scientific one. This is why my mom and step father drove to North Carolina yesterday to get theirs. Despite being a cancer patient on radiation(weakened immune system), my stepdad was told to "get in line".

It's not a political decision so much as a practical one

65+ are disproportionately clogging up the hospital beds and dying at disproportionate rates.

I was able to get my parents (78) and my neighbors (80s) signed up for state sponsored vaccine drives relatively quickly here in FL.

My inlaws in Virginia (74, a veteran with 3 people hearts and the very highest priority at the VA) have no hopes of being vaccinated any time soon. The VA is pathetic.

So leftist are now trying to kill people based on the color of their skin, and calling you a racist if you're not on board.

Fuller,

Let's read the entire article to put it into context, eh ?

First of all, this article is 2 months and a number of the quotes are from before any vaccine was approved. These ideas were from an open discussion of priorities to be overseen by the National Academies.

"The National Academies’ recommendations are broken down into four phases and set a goal to ensure that every step of the process takes into account the disproportionate public health and economic impact the virus has had on the elderly and communities of color."

There are a number of medical organizations that make up the NA. I hardly think that you can assume that they have some leftist political agenda. Although there are one or two questionable quotes in the article, the vast majority of considerations are purely health-related.

People of color (& the elderly & compromised) have been disproportionally affected by this virus, so it only seems smart to take that into consideration when dealing with the response to this virus.

So maybe we could avoid the simplistic, hyperbolic statements long enough to give these scientist a chance to formulate a plan that they think will save the greatest number of Americans.

Most definitely hyperbolic. I mean we are on P&R right.
I was mostly referring to Gostin's first statement. And who knows what his full sentiment might have been. Taking people out of context seems to happen a lot in reporting.

I hate racism, and I don't like discrimination being used to try to solve discrimination.

And I too hope that the people that need the vaccine the most get it first.

My in-laws in SC are in 70s and 80s and just got first vaccine two days ago. I thought that was pretty good...
