The "Thinning Of The Herd" Post Of Week-October 6th Edition

Sep 30, 2018, 8:42 AM

My weekly reminder that College Football has a way of "thinning the herd"...as we almost found out the hard way yesterday :)

Going into last week, there were 15 undefeated teams with legit shots to be in playoff. I suggested last week anywhere from 3-5 will lose this past weekend..

Those "thinned from the herd" yesterday: Syracuse, Penn State, Stanford, California, and Duke. 5 go down

We are now down to 10 teams that are undefeated as we head to October.

Weekend of October 6th "Thinning Of The Herd":

Guaranteed Thinning Will Take Place:
No match-up next week between undefeated teams, so no guarantees of thinning next week.

"Upset Alert"??
LSU (5-0) at Florida (4-1)...UF has to find some offense if they want to win.
Texas (4-1) vs. Oklahoma (5-0)...Red River Rivalry. OU just gave up 33 points to Baylor.
Kentucky (5-0) at TAMU (3-2)...This will be 3rd Top 15 team Aggies have played.
Notre Dame (5-0) at Virginia Tech...Blacksburg won't be an easy out for Irish.

Will Keep Winning....For Now
Alabama (5-0) at Arkansas (1-4). Kelly Bryant's next school is Arky? They need him.
Kansas (2-3) at West Virginia (4-0). Schedule ramps up for WVU later in year.
Clemson (5-0) at Wake Forest (3-2). Hope TL is back. But will win with Brice if need be.
Indiana (4-1) at Ohio State (5-0). I almost put this in upset alert...but it's Indiana.
SMU (2-3) at UCF (4-0). I keep UCF in here only for fun. They have not chance at CFP.
Vandy (3-2) at Georgia (5-0). Vandy is Vandy.

So, this week will be more quiet than last week. I still project 2 losses from the undefeated ranks. But, it is possible that this is the week that all undefeated teams win and everybody starts talking about scenarios of more than 4 teams finishing the year undefeated.

And you will be buying fools gold if you fall for that.

The college football season has a way of “thinning the herd”

Great post. Thanks. I think 2 go down this week as well.

Great post, but there are still some who think an undefeated Clemson gets left out.

No way that happens.

13-0 Clemson has a 0% chance of not making playoffs

If you want to say 1% to be like the weathermen and leave a variable in there, we can.

I agree with you...but we have a bunch of nervous nellies around here!
