would have already seen it done by re-balancing the SEC west and LSU Bama back in their heyday. Also, the big ten has Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State in the same division which is insane.

They would probably just do away with the SEZ-East after a few years since they would never be in their championship game.

Would sort of defeat the purpose of divisions wouldn't it.

The ACC is never going to let this happen.

In the current College Football Playoff National Championship structure that we are working under, placing the two highest squads, no matter the division in the ACC championship is too risky. Under last year's example, had the ACC rematched Clemson and FSU and FSU had won that game, there is a pretty good chance that FSU would not have made it into the Final Four Playoff against unbeatens or one-loss teams from the other conferences. The ACC wants to be in a situation where one of their teams is unbeaten at #1 or #2 and then a one-loss team can inch into the #4 spot. That is the perfect scenario for them, and frankly the other Power 5 conferences too.

Never saw it like that. I figured they wanted the North

Carolina basketball schools in the weaker non-football league to give them a better
chance of making the Championship game. Was I wrong about that?

Why would the teams in the Coastal agree to it?

Aug 9, 2016, 2:56 PM

All those major changes have to be voted on by the conference members (and probably have to have a super majority). No way UNC is going to volunteer to switch divisions and have to face Clemson and FSU every year. The only way it will happen is with conference expansion that forces a complete realignment.

But these things are cyclical. Eventually the divisions will be equal or even flip. Its happened with just about every other conference.

The Big 12 want fully autonomy and they compromised by only allowing a championship with less than 12 teams. It's my understanding that there was some uneasiness that Swoffie was going to get creative and figure out how ND could play in the championship even though they play 2 less conference games than everyone else.
