for a couple of years when planes were 1/4 to 1/2 full really spoiled me

at the very back of the plane. Actually the very last row that only has two seats. It took 2 hours to get everyone on/off the place. Sat next to a woman who reeked of baby powder and did not speak or acknowledge me for the duration of the 16 hellish hours. They had effectively cut me off from alcohol somewhere over Alaska. I would legit rather spend a month in jail than do that again.
From then on, if it's within a 10-12 hour drive, I drive.

I flew from JFK to Accra, Ghana overnight in the row that is right behind the partition wall between sections, so even less leg stretch room than normal. The woman next to me had a newborn that she was breastfeeding the whole flight. She asked me to hold her baby several times so she could go to the bathroom. That was quite the flight.

Just get at the airport 2-3 hours before your flight, spend $25 a day to park your car at one end and $100 a day to rent one at the other end, be prepared for half day of delays, and get to sit next to a 450# guy with a service Llama in a seat made for a toddler.
