Targeting post-game appeal

Dec 20, 2020, 8:33 AM

So Turner has to miss first half of CFP semi and this Bama player doesn’t? There needs to be some type of post-game appeal for these inconsistent targeting calls. Not saying Turner’s tackle wasn’t technically targeting, but compared to this hit it was a love tap. Letter of the law vs spirit of the law.

There is no rule against a blind side tackle. It was a brutal tackle and one that would have earned the player a Skull and Crossbones back in Danny's day but it was legal. Turner launched and the crown of his helmet hit the ND player's helmet.

Wrong. Turner did not launch. He just lowered his shoulder

as he approached the receiver who was diving to make the catch. Guess what happens when you lower your shoulder? YOUR HEAD LOWERS TOO!!! Then his helmet collided with the helmet of the diving receiver (whose helmet was also lowered). To suggest that Turner was intentionally "targeting" the receivers head or neck area is absurd, and only a complete moran could believe that, yet that is what we are supposed to believe. Turner did nothing wrong - that's the problem; what he did was entirely unavoidable. He was just playing good clean football, but now he's been unfairly and severely hammered.

By rule, nothing to review or appeal. In the Florida/Bama

Dec 20, 2020, 8:46 AM

deal, there was no helmet-to-helmet contact, no contact to head or neck. The ball carrier was not a "defenseless opponnent" by rule. The blindside block rule does not apply to a ball carrier. So by rule, no targeting, no blindside block, no personal foul, no penalty, nothing to review or appeal. Look, There is PLENTY wrong with the targeting rule as written, it just doesn't apply here.
