Growing up in Clemson in the late 40's and 50's - the wonderful Clemson ice cream was produced and sold in the old Dairy Science building. One of the early faculty reps for the football team was Red Ritchie - he taught in that building. Many a Sunday after church we would go get an ice cream and then go on a campus tour or head to the dairy barn to watch the cows being milked...it was a very different time and a much slower pace. Great memories

The ice cream survived at least until the 1970's. The Dairy

Science building was directly across a breezeway from the Computer Sciences building where we would have to take our keypunch card program decks to have them run on the computer. (Something modern kids equate to the age of the dinosaurs.) To this day, still the best milk shakes I have ever had. They contributed mightily to me gaining my "Freshman 15". :)

Frank. Do you remember when the ice cream shop was in a small building in the middle of the campus? It was moved to the P&A Building, about 1956.

I remember going to the diary science building for ice cream and milk shakes in the early 1950s while it was below the library and beside Long Hall. Also, I remember when they moved it to the R.F. Poole complex. They tore down the old Diary building to build the new Arts & Sciences complex near the outdoor theater. There were many happy times growing up in Clemson before I arrived as a student in 1963.

Remember getting them to blend in a couple of fresh raw eggs in the shake for a perceived cure for a late night out.
