TNET: Coaches telling California playmaker that "anything can happen" in recruiting

Coaches telling California playmaker that "anything can happen" in recruiting

California playmaker Daniyel Ngata released a top seven this weekend that includes Clemson, his one-time leader. However, with the Tigers full at running back for now, the Clemson coaches are telling Ngata that anything can happen in recruiting. Full Story »

I wonder if he'd balk at being asked to commit as an ATH and focus on maybe playing that " slot " reciever role ?
He obviously likes us and he obviously has ball catching skills . Could be a nightmare to defend on shovel passes and the " Artavis " special toss handoff sweeps : )

A move to the slot would likely improve his NFL possibilities & prolong it

His film looks great. I hope he hasn't waited too long playing the recruiting game that he is left behind. It certainly would be his loss, especially with a brother on the roster.

He's just gaming and trying to see the country. He may have waited too long now though, but he could have made it a lot easier on his family had he thought about the inconvenience to them of having sons at different schools. Seems like that would have been a great decision for his family and for himself. He may have good reasons for not choosing us, but time will tell. Seems his Clemson option may have left, or soon will leave, the building. We will be just fine regardless of his decision. This train will roll with or without him.

Daniyel sure is ticked at someone in that sideline photo! ??
Sounds like he's moving on.

It would be his loss.

Why?

Jun 10, 2019, 10:44 AM

I find these posts irritating in general, but even more so in this situation. Right now we don't even have a spot for the kid and it's "his loss" if he chooses to go elsewhere? Even if Clemson is his #1 choice, his primary focus SHOULD be elsewhere in the (pretty likely) event that we don't have a RB opening for him.

Like you, I have an opinion. In my opinion, he couldn’t have chosen a better opportunity than Clemson. Maybe he doesn’t. Time will tell. We will be fine. He may be too. Hope so!

Clemson isn't the right fit for everyone - he needs to make sure it's the right fit. If he already thought that, I doubt he'd have waited.

Re: Why?

Jun 10, 2019, 7:13 PM

You may be right. It just seems that he is trying to do the entire recruiting thing, and that's his choice, but there are too many great kids with great talent who like what we have. Choosing somewhere else is a wonderful option for him, if he doesn't like Clemson. If he really does like Clemson, but is just trying to do the recruiting thing, he may just miss the bus that goes to Clemson. I do wish him well, though. He looks like a great athlete who can help somebody.

I totally agree.
He is a kid. These kind of caustic responses and arrogant responses are unwarranted. YES - we are winning now. But I have still not forgotten the days of losing and how mediocre we were.

Some humility will help.

Pryor is lucky that we dont pull offers to get other players. I think Ngata is better, but you have to take the slot when it's there. A Clemson offer is something valuable and hard to get!

I agree that off the start DN would fit our offense better than KP, however.... KP is something that we haven’t had here In a looooooooong time. I believe Pryor has the frame and love for the weight room to end up playing at the 220-230lb range and could be a bruiser! Bowman will show that speed kills, then Pryor punches them in the mouth. I like the route we are headed at RB

one thing that I truly love about our staff is that

Jun 10, 2019, 10:14 AM [ in reply to Re: Hope we can land him but first come first serve*** ]

they don't play games with prospects; making promises they don't keep and not being transparent. I believe that the staff knew that Ngata would not make an early decision but still have a role for him if or when he wants to commit. Every recruit knows the staff's intention for how they fit on the team, which is why I see Knighton, Grimes, or Henry Gray as players with offers but their fit is now filled...
but Ngata, Flowe, Burch and Paris Johnson still have a place on the team if they decide to commit...

Did you read the article?

Jun 10, 2019, 10:44 AM

It basically says the only way we are taking Ngata is if one of our other RBs decommits. This seems pretty unlikely considering we haven't had a true decommit in like 5 years. The only other way I could see him ending up on the team is if we take him as a WR or something. We aren't taking 3 RBs.

Did you read my post???

Jun 10, 2019, 11:25 AM

did I say we take him as a RB or that he has a role/fit on the team?? Try reading the literal posts without your perceptions leading the way...

reading is fundamental, but comprehension is a necessity...

Re: Did you read my post???

Jun 10, 2019, 3:25 PM

Can we please take this kid? He already has family here. This kid can do so much. I'd keep this offer open.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

my personal thought is that the staff is working

Jun 11, 2019, 1:25 PM

to keep his scholly open, we can preach family all day but then tell family that they can no longer take their commitment would be an opportunity for Dabo's good to be evil spoken of...

I think Daniyel is a take even to the end of the cycle. but a contrasting situation was Big Dex's little brother, who we never offered, because he was only a fall back take two years ago but we got the commitment from LJD...

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just my opinion, but right now the kid wants to play RB.

Jun 10, 2019, 3:37 PM [ in reply to Did you read my post??? ]

Coaches have told him RB is full for now.(anything can happen)

If he wants to play slot, there'll be room for him.

Think slot, think jet sweep, think back to lining up Sammy in the backfield.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Just my opinion, but right now the kid wants to play RB.

Jun 10, 2019, 7:32 PM

If he comes, and happens to be the best RB for our program, that's what he will be. If he is better suited somewhere else, then he may change positions, become a specialist (kick returner, punt returner, etc.) or he may get limited playing time as a RB, ride pine, etc. That will be decided after he gets here and competes. Also, he may not like the discipline requirements, religious importance our staff embodies, etc, or he may just not like little old Clemson, and that may be driving his decision. Whatever! Hope he finds what he is looking for. Either way, we are going to be a great program for a good while.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that's why my comments were that he has a role/fit

Jun 11, 2019, 1:27 PM [ in reply to Just my opinion, but right now the kid wants to play RB. ]

on the team if he wants to commit... it was the same with Dakereon Joyner, the scholly was open until Joyner said no to how the coaches wanted to slot him...

I see it differently. At the end we will have a couple of spots for over sign players think Burch and Flowe. If these guys go elsewhere angsts may have a spot without anyone decommiting. If they both commit then we are likely to be full after taking two WRs and a TE. I know there a couple more high end players on the radar but I did not list them due to their long shot status

I can't say for sure what is influencing him around his decision but I can speculate. Since his brother is already on the team, sometimes you want to step out of the shadow of your older brother and simply create your own experience rather than follow in your brother's footsteps.

I really wanted my daughter to go to Clemson but after visiting she sat me down and said, "Dad, Clemson is awesome and it was a great experience for you but I want to follow my own path."

She is now a Junior at Penn State where she is flourishing. In hindsight, it was absolutely the right decision for her and I am proud she had the courage to do what was right for her and not what felt right to me.
