On the one hand, Barn, the world just ain't right when 2/3rds of the Orange Crush look like hammered donkey poop.

On the other hand, now we gotta be crootin' against that feller.

That there's called a conundrum.

Six years out of the college game, and zero experience

recruiting the South. It might sound like a sexy hire on the surface, but I consider it a bit of a gamble. Most of the kids he'll be recruiting won't have a very firm grasp on who is is and what he's done outside of seeing him as a TV analyst. He might do well there, but it will take him some time to build a recruiting base.

Also, the spread HUNH offense is much more prevalent in CFB

than it was when Kelly was at Oregon.

badge-ringofhonor-clemsonsteve02.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Indeed.

Nov 14, 2017, 4:24 PM

But...what Florida has lacked since Urban Myer is a cohesive offensive philosophy of ANY kind. At the very least, Kelly should help remedy that.

He also can't pay as well as he did in Oregon.

Nov 14, 2017, 5:59 PM [ in reply to Six years out of the college game, and zero experience ]

Mostly on account of being bad enough at paying people that he got caught and the NCAA did one of those show cause deals. I mean, now bad to you have to be to get caught enough the NCAA does anything about it?

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He hates recruiting.....hence why he went to the NFL

Nov 14, 2017, 4:30 PM [ in reply to Not sure if pleased. ]

I'm sure he'll bring in others that will do the recruiting.

Steve Spurrier and watching games on TV instead of leading a team on the sidelines then.

Funny how Oregon was a force when he was there but now

Nov 14, 2017, 4:30 PM

that he's gone they're pretty much insignificant to college football.

Not sure he can duplicate that again, but then again it won't take much to win the SEC East. And please don't give me that UGA argument, they've played one good team all year and got their ### handed to them. Notre Dame doesn't count, Miami proved how bad ND is.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

why doens't that prove how good Miami is

Nov 14, 2017, 4:39 PM

vs how it proves how bad ND is?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because Miami has beaten 3 teams with a winning record

Nov 14, 2017, 4:49 PM

and most of their wins have been *STRUGGLE WINS*!

*Insert Funnymaine voice

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But they are undefeated

Nov 14, 2017, 4:50 PM

We lost to Cuse

Miami is not a bad team at all. Crush ND doesn't make them the best team ever but is it a marquee win

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Very true.

Nov 14, 2017, 4:57 PM

I think Miami is the flavor of the week among pollsters, but the truth of the matter is that NO team stands head and shoulders above the rest as the top 10 goes this year. I'm thinking that the reality is there are maybe half a dozen 'elite' teams that could win the championship. There is no Alabama this year...including Alabama.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Duke basketball does. Those dudes are like 6'9" minimum

Nov 14, 2017, 5:02 PM

What CFB team you know that can compete with that?

badge-ringofhonor-clemsonsteve02.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Miami could have easily lost to GT, FSU and UNC...

Nov 14, 2017, 5:02 PM [ in reply to But they are undefeated ]

but yeah, they didn't lose those games and they destroyed a highly ranked and, at the time, thought of ND team. They deserve to be where they are. Being undefeated in a P5 conference warrants a high ranking.

They do have major weaknesses though. They live on getting the turnover and the momentum that creates. Their offense is mediocre. Without short fields and momentum swings they probably would have a couple of losses by now. The ND game could be a major pivot point where they are fully back to being the Miami of old, or they could lose to UVA and Pitt.

There's no "great" team this year in college football and every single team in the top four will have major weaknesses so it should be a fun playoff that will come down to matchups and mistakes.
