SEC summer tryouts start this week, expect the numbers to change over the coming weeks.

This is my biggest problem with USuCk and the SEC.

Jul 31, 2017, 5:45 PM

The NCAA needs to step in and put a stop to this. Don't pass pseudo legislation and not enforce it just because of $$$$ the SEC makes. This is wrong and potentially detrimental to the student athlete.

They will also thin out after a 4 or 5 win season

It's SEC Math...... When you have 11 spots in the SEC

Jul 31, 2017, 5:49 PM

You sign 25 players. See you'll have 5 current players who'll get arrested and kicked off the team, 4 current players who'll transfer to 1-AA team and 5 signees that'll never make it into school........ ??

You must not have heard. No one can stop them. All the juniors are declaring early because they are all first round draft pics. Or something like that.

as said - to add one - 20% will not qualify and go JUCO***

They've already had attrition- only 76 players on scholarship. That's 9 plus 11 seniors gets them to 20. Everybody loses a few and they will have some non-quals, so I'd expect a class of 22-25.

The trick will be finding that many guys who are sick of winning.

What's truly shameful is how they only have 76 players on scholarship right now. Per Scout, they signed 21 in 2017, 24 in 2016, 33 in 2015, and 18 in 2014. That totals 96 scholarships... and I'm not even including the players that they signed in 2013 that redshirted.

The way they go through players over at that program is truly pathetic and they should be ashamed of that kind of turnover.

And in case you were wondering, in those same four years, Clemson signed 14 in 2017, 21 in 2016, 24 in 2015, and 19 in 2014 for a total of 78. And everyone knows Clemson has put far more underclassmen in the NFL over this time frame than South Carolina, which skews the numbers even more towards South Carolina's oversigning.

Bottom line it comes down to morals. Whatever

Jul 31, 2017, 7:33 PM

conference you are in and you recruit a player and sign him...I know the NCAA scholarship is not a four year contract, but is renewable year to year, if he busts his butt every day in practice but just does not pan out to be player you thought he might end up being, you let him keep his scholarship! Unfortunately lots of schools do not do this, especially the SEC.

Think about J.J.Kay, four or five star.recruit out of Greenville. Got hurt in the Shrine Bowl game. Re-Habed for a year but to no success. Next, think of the player from Anderson that committed to us his junior year. He had a stroke before his senior year, but Dabo honored his scholarship. One last story (story to be long) but Corey Lambert, five star tackle out of Greenville that did not pan out. I got to know Corey well and he told me that Brad Scott (his recruiter) told him that, tho he was going in to his senior year of high school football, if he got a disabled injury, Clemson would still honor his scholarship. As a side note, Corey and Brad were having lunch at Tanners on Pleasantburg in Greenville and Brad told Corey that he would love to pay for his meal but NCAA regulations would not allow him to.

Do we not have a clean program or not?

You bet we do my Tiger Brother. Just curious, did you get to know Cory during one of his summer jobs?

Rules? Ethics? Pffft, whatever.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just now, Morrell on WCCP said they'd take 25

Aug 1, 2017, 8:43 AM

It's the SEC way, take at least 25 and sort it out after NSD in Feb before practice start in August.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

SEC math - they drop 10 - 12 guys every year***
