Jan 30, 2020, 1:42 PM

When I was 19 my 35/36 yr/o parents did some traveling in my dad's truck. While they were traveling I got mixed up in the pillowcase bank job. My mom came home while my dad delivered his contract freight to its destination and my dad came home a week later.

I had been indicted in federal court in Knox, TN and released on a personal recog signature. Dad's visit home was brief and he wasn't much for 'I love you,' or soft words but he brought me an Elgin Sportsman watch and the promise that though he did not uphold or condone my behavior he was going to stand with me and support a defense in court.

A week later he died. Needless to say, the life changing events of that day shaped who I would become. For months I had been a subjected to the reality that God is. It was as if I had been traveling down a dark corridor which had only two exits with no doors or windows on either side.

While passing through this long hall many times I heard a small, still voice behind me. It was gentle and softly calling my name. As I listened I have moved more quickly with each step. On that day which was about this time of the year some five decades ago a hand touched my shoulder with just enough force to turn me to see that the hand belonged to The Almighty God.

He said, 'I have been calling you...' along with other things which aren't necessary to speak here. I dropped to my knees and submitted to Him. Although I have been His biggest disappointment, the true failure, He has never turned away from me, never given me up nor has He given up on me.

I am a slave to His immutable, undying love. When I was 19 I became a slave, a slave to God's love and I would not have it any other way. He has put His joy in my heart which I can not describe so I won't try.
