I can't help but keep thinking about this.

I mean, I don't want to see anyone's life put in danger. I'm fairly certain I had it, and I would never want anyone to have the symptoms I went through.
However there is a small part of me that thinks once the team's had it, and the staff has been exposed, what the risk after afterwards. Is there a risk?

There is the risk that a player will die. Hopefully not, but you never know.

There's a risk that a player will die from the flu. There's a risk that a player will get hit by a car walking across the street on the way to practice. There's a risk that a player will develop a DVT from a hit and cause a stroke that kills him. There's a risk that a play breaks his neck and is killed on the field. There's a risk that some player has a genetic defect that will cause his heart to stop.
Humans tend to do a poor job actually assessing risk. A person who will drive 500 miles to spend a weekend at the beach, then say "I won't go in the water because I'm afraid of getting eaten by a shark." has completely ignored the inherently higher risk of getting killed in a car wreck on the way to the beach.
For people in their age group, the risk of dying if you catch COVID is slightly higher than dying if you catch the flu. If they were 85 years old, then the risk of dying from COVID is 6-10 times higher than dying from the flu. OTOH, at 85, the risk of dying from the flu is fairly significant relative to people in the 18-25 age group.
In the last 4 months 11,600 people age 15-24 have died, 132 from COVID and 51 from the flu. Chances are high that these poor young people also had compromised immune systems to begin with and were not "healthy young adults". The odds say that a person in their age group is FAR more likely to die from almost anything else besides COVID (or the flu), usually accidents, suicide, or homicide.
About 5000 people in this age group are murdered in a typical year, so they face a much better chance of being murdered than dying from COVID. About 5000 commit suicide. Again about much higher chance of suicide than death by COVID. 14,000 or so die in accidents, much much more likely. Almost 200 die from pneumonia or flu in "normal" years, so extrapolating out to about 350-400 from COVID is does not make COVID seem *that* much worse than the flu...maybe 1.5 to 2x worse?

Antibodies wane in about 2 months, although that doesn't necessarily mean that immunity goes away. https://apple.news/ANLPLpEK3RFSYlA_vDOcs-Q Sure hope immunity remains, or we're stuck with this mess for a while.

Plenty of cases where people have gotten it twice

The question they’re trying to figure out is if it was the same strain that just went dormant in their system for awhile or new strains

This virus is not that dangerous for that age group

To-date the CDC has reported 132 Covid related deaths in the age range 15-24. For ages 16-19 about 2,400 kids die every year in automobile accidents.
As a parent I would feel that my child was safer on the practice field than driving to and from practice.
The hysteria over kids is completely unwarranted. Only 3 deaths under 15. And these deaths include already sick kids. More kids will die from the regular flu and other causes than Covid.
Go back to school and protect the elderly and vulnerable!!

You can get it again. It’s not like the chicken pox. Your body SHOULD create natural defenses to fight if off based on the 1st time but it’s not a guarantee.
