So if ACC makes an ad using a student

Oct 30, 2019, 9:55 AM

Can the student now get paid for that? Say they used TL, can he get paid as a “spokesperson” for ACC?

Does he have to sign something saying that is ok? Or do they already sign something to allow the ACC to use their image?

For that matter, what about a school using a player to promote the school? Granted you would think and hope a player would approve - but say a player is used in a clip for State U, then the player enters the transfer portal and leaves on “bad terms.” Can he tell the conference/school he wants compensated? (Unlikely, but there are a lot of ramifications from this new ruling!)

Nobody knows things like this yet. The NCAA only......

announced the beginning of a transition to athletes being compensated. I heard on ESPN yesterday that it may take years to work out/agree on the specific details.

I think it will take years to develop a program that is fair to everyone and every institution. I hope that the NCAA goes out of their organization and finds the right people to develop this program. I am convinced that the NCAA can’t handle a chore like this. They have botched up many easier challenges than this one!

As some have already said nobody has decided the details at this point.

However, this seems like one of the easier decisions to make.

If a school is part of a conference, then the conference pays a flat rate for access to all players' images.
