Bama is in unless they somehow lose to Miss. St. and then unexpectedly to Auburn in the last game of the season. The SEC West is going to be interesting to watch. If Auburn wins the Iron bowl and then Bama loses the SEC championship then they likely would be out as well no matter how much ESPN wanted them for ratings.

By losing, they force the committee to bring the second SEC team into the playoffs. If their loss keeps them out of the SEC championship game, it gives them an extra week of preparation/recuperation before their first playoff game. All the while, the other teams are slugging it out in their conference championship games. Happened last year.
