Oct 4, 2015, 6:25 PM

Mike Echols is a wizard

I'm trying to figure out how they even painted the field with 9 straight days of rain.

He probably planted the grass to grow in that color. Impressive!

Agree with you.

Great turf and great drainage holding up during constant rain. There could not have been a better example of what Clemson people can do. Unless it is the football team. Go Tigers!

I posted the same after the game. I can't believe how well

the field held up. We kept hearing it was a state of the art drainage system, and I believe it. I would love to see a detailed illustration of the system. Kudos to the grounds crew that kept it working to perfection.

...but seriously - has anyone ever seen that happen where the band (1) didn't perform at the half and (2) the band wasn't wearing their marching uniforms under their rain coats. Both were firsts for me at Clemson.

I was in the band back in the day. The reason they didn't wear uniforms is because with that much expected rain, those uniforms would need to be sent to the dry cleaners. They likely didn't have that planned far enough in advance, which is why no uniforms. About the lack of performance, it was probably a combination of no uniforms and a safety concern. Marching shoes are slick to begin with.

well, they did announce that the band wasn't performing

Oct 4, 2015, 7:24 PM

so the grounds crew could work on the field. So I understand the reason, just never saw that before! And your explanation of the uniforms makes sense. They knew they'd have those rain jackets on all night; i just thought it was funny to see them in jeans! :)

Shout out to Ronnie Oliver and Environmental Landscaping out of Greenwood, SC. He was the sub-contractor on the field back when improvements were made. He built it to ensure it would handle the rain. Ronnie is a graduate of Clemson and a long time member of IPTAY.
