Sad news - T's and P's

May 31, 2019, 12:22 PM

SarahAdidas's brother and wife are expecting their first child. She's about 20 weeks along, so they went to the OB to find out the sex of the baby this morning. She's a girl, but she has a major heart defect. I'm not sure what the long-term implications are, but SarahAdidas was bawling on the phone... They're going to head to Charleston to be checked out. SarahAdidas is all torn up about it, and I am certain that her brother/sis-in-law are hurting big time.

T's and P's if you're so inclined. Positive Vibe's are also accepted.

I hope everything works out.

It really makes me grateful for my two healthy young'uns.

My granddaughter was born in Feb. at MUSC. She had 3 heart defects. MUSC is wonderful. The granddaughter is doing great now. Wonderful doctors and nurses there......????

Seriously it's amazing what doctors can do these days

May 31, 2019, 12:30 PM

with the heart.

A little boy in my town has a heart defect where every beat of his heart tears the muscles and lining just a bit. The doctors have pretty much said he won't make it past a certain amount of beats or something.

Little dude is still trucking and they said he wouldn't make it past Christmas.

I like your funny words magic man

Lotsa advances in that area. My cousin had a kid born same

May 31, 2019, 12:32 PM

day as my daughter, tough first 6 months but good now. Same heart defect that Greg Olson's kid has, i think. Coworker just had a kid who was born with some heart defects as well but he is doing pretty good at about 2 months old. Good luck to them, I am sure it is stressful AF for everyone involved.

Yes sir, you got it.

May 31, 2019, 12:48 PM

Hope everything goes very well and this is just a faded memory when they aren’t getting any sleep after the baby comes home healthy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh man, you got it.

May 31, 2019, 1:03 PM

I can't even imagine what they are going through. My wife is at 8 weeks now and every visit just brings a whole lot of stress on what they may see (friggin ultrasound every week right now due to high risk). Especially sensitive to those matters, hope everything turns out ok.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Congrats.

You got it bud. And they are in good hands at MUSC.

May 31, 2019, 1:50 PM

Their pediatric unit is top notch. Its seriously some sci-fi #### that they can do these days. Especially when you're talking about surgery on newborns.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

T's and P's sent.

May 31, 2019, 1:53 PM

Please keep us informed - hope for good news from MUSC.

one of the 3-D printing labs on campus. He works closely with MUSC and has even taken an MRI and printed a heart valve for a pre-mie than was surgically implanted to replace the failed one. Unbelieveable.

Hope for the best.

Allow me to regale you with a nice story

Jun 3, 2019, 7:47 PM

A former Clemson great (taking liberty with that word) had a daughter with a defective ticker. She had three surgeries before she was 2 months old. Had another one around 3 years old. Grew up normal, healthy kid who took pride in her scars.

She played the toughest position on the field for me, goal keeper, and she is in the Coach MauldinT HOF. So much so, every year I tell my team this story and the most deserving kid gets called this young ladies name the entire season.

She graduated from Clemson in 2018, and is in grad school out west studying to be a film writer.

If she was proud of her scars...

Jun 3, 2019, 8:23 PM

then you saw them, right? Mayhaps when she was in college... heart is near breasticles... scars near breasticles... you saw her breasts? Then where are the pigs?

Vibes sent man

Jun 4, 2019, 8:25 AM

I've got 2 close friends who've had kids within the last two years with a heart problem. Both of which are now alive and well, kicking it, and awesome kids. Both cases were identified in pregnancy, and fixed/resolved immediately after birth.

Take solace, if you can, knowing that there are some smart sombiches out there and they've come a long way in this type of thing.

PM me if you need any references or anything like that. One family was in Nashville (Vandy hospital), other out in Denver (dunno hospital), but they live in Athens, GA now and would be more than happy to help any way they can.

Sorry I missed this before.
