Whether the SEC network is a success with 3rd tier games

Feb 27, 2013, 4:47 PM

or not is to be decided in the future.

This article here sounds like A&M officials are now telling their people that the promises that were made to them to switch conferences will now be on hold until this network is up and running. Until then, they'll still be broke.

The A&M people were told that changing conferences was the game changer, now the rules are being changed.

Re: Whether the SEC network is a success with 3rd tier games

Feb 27, 2013, 5:47 PM

A&M doesn't have any financial flexibility at the moment because as their agreement with the Big 12 during the exit, the forfeited their final season payout from the Big 12's TV deal. They don't receive their first cut from the SEC until this June/July. They'll still get a nice cut this year, but it will get even bigger after the network is launched and the big TV contract is renegotiated to reflect 14 teams instead of 12.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

As long as the network doesn't upset espn, im sure that's

Feb 27, 2013, 4:47 PM

taken care of. I don't see how this provides more exposure since we already have to suffer through expanded sec bball coverage on espn. Every football game that anyone could remotely care about is also already on espn. I know there's a few extra million dollars out of it, however. Hopefully, it means more acc baseball games on espn since sec network will show sec baseball games. Or we'll see twice as much cal state fullerton.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

WHO besides the coots care about SEC baseball?? Live

Feb 27, 2013, 5:06 PM

in SEC territory and NOBODY ever mentions SEC basketball or baseball just SEC football 365 days/year. I know in KY they care about basketball but thankfully do not live in KY.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LSU's fans are very into baseball

Feb 27, 2013, 7:29 PM

Arky as well, and I know some UGA and UF ppl that keep up with baseball.

Who's gonna actually watch the SEC network besides ###### bag SEC homers?

They say it will bring exposure to the schools but who's actually gonna pay for the channel besides, like I said, ###### bag SEC homers?

Latest estimates

Feb 27, 2013, 6:55 PM

We're said to increase the TV contrat 1-1.5 million per team. Not a game changer. No one is getting B1G network money because they realized it wasn't as profitable to the provider. Plus espn will be doing the network and why would they take money from there own tv deal. In reality it is just another layer in the TV deal.

Who wouldn't pay to watch...

Feb 27, 2013, 7:27 PM

Bama playing UTC or Memphis State playing LSU?

In the end the SEC network and all the others will turn out like the Longhorn deal.

LHN was a dumb idea

Feb 27, 2013, 7:34 PM

Not enough stuff to put on for just Texas athletics, and they assumed more potential buyers would purchase it than ultimately did.

The SEC Network will offer more than LHN possibly could

What I'm saying is it makes a lot more sense to have a conference network than a network for one school.

you're an idiot if you think the LHN is even a little bit successful.

Re: LOL. Yea, Texas, they aren't ####.***

Feb 27, 2013, 9:03 PM

and youre one if you think anyone wants to see Ole Miss, Miss St, Kent, Mizz, SCar, Vandy or Tenn on a regular basis. Maybe they should change it to the Bama Network LOL

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thats the point genius

Feb 27, 2013, 9:16 PM

In a conference you have several programs that people wont follow all the time, but will watch in key games in multiple sports (football and basketball for sure).

Feb 27, 2013, 9:22 PM [ in reply to I find it hilarious ]

I made my point that noone will watch the majority of sec teams so in reality it will be the bama network

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It wont be the bama network

Feb 27, 2013, 9:27 PM

because ppl will be interested in big games that dont involve Bama. If anything, you could maybe argue that itll be the Big 6 network (UT, UF, LSU, UGA, Bama, AU), but with aTm, USC, Ole Miss and even Vandy having "programs on the rise", games involving them, or any other team thats having success in the conference, will have a national appeal.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It wont be the bama network

Feb 27, 2013, 9:29 PM

AU and Tenn? really? no way. They cant even sell game tickets to home games.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Much easier and cheaper to turn on the TV

Feb 27, 2013, 9:33 PM

than to attend the game in person.

Both those programs have won a BCS national title, they won be down forever either

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Much easier and cheaper to turn on the TV

Feb 27, 2013, 9:36 PM

Clemson has a title and is on the rise again as well. And Death Valley is packed even when games are on TV...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

sigh

Feb 27, 2013, 9:40 PM

I said "BCS national title" which means 98 or later. yalls was in 81 i think.

And it doesn't matter how many butts are in the seats of the stadium when talking about t.v. deals.

Arguably less ppl at the games means more are watching on t.v.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: sigh

Feb 27, 2013, 9:43 PM

what does it say about your fans though...and Clemson is on the rise like it or not...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It doesn't say anything about USC's fans...

Feb 27, 2013, 9:47 PM

You were talking specifically about Auburn and Tennessee

And I didn't say Clemson wasn't on the rise. You're really straying off topic-Clemson's success has nothing to do with the SEC Network

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why are you talking about USC? The Trojans aren't in the SEC

Feb 27, 2013, 10:14 PM

also please coot, don't talk about national titles, as you will never take part, only in riding Bama and LSU's coat tails like the pathetic leeches you are

It doesn't have anyting to do with the LHN

Feb 27, 2013, 11:00 PM

They have their own network because they make bank.

They don't make bank because they have their own network.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It doesn't have anyting to do with the LHN

Feb 27, 2013, 11:10 PM

Yes they do - you've lost your argument because you've gotten too confused on which argument you are in.

You said, "They don't make bank because they have their own network."

If they did not have their network - they would not have that income.

Here's as little hint -
You won't last long on here with your attitude. Any Clemson fan with your posting record on any usc site would be long gone by now - your "life" here will be short if you don't ease off.

badge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wow.

Feb 27, 2013, 11:17 PM

the LHN is struggling big time. Do a simple google search and i'm sure youll find plenty of articles about it.

Texas isn't making much-if any-money off of it. I'm pretty sure that they share the profits with other Big 12ish schools now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Wow.

Feb 27, 2013, 11:28 PM

I'm pretty sure you are wrong.

Why don't you Google it and get back to us.

Just for your information - it's a $300 million over 20 years.

Is that not much money - if any in your world?

The Big 12 does not share third tier rights.
