International news is interesting.

Jan 24, 2021, 9:41 AM

Called this a while back. Someone's gonna pop.

In Taiwan...

https://apnews.com/article/beijing-taiwan-china-asia-pacific-84d71bb4987cbf23b3aa5c07014d9a93?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=AP

In Russia.... The chairman of the poisoning committee has been fired.

https://twitter.com/Reuters/status/1353338010792812556?s=19

Then I'm watching some financial news network about the $15hr minimum wage. They have rehashed every social implication to it. How it impacts employers. Jobs. Etc. And not a single peep about the real problem with raising it.

If she's a screamer, she'll get you arrested.

No doing his part and maskless on federal land. He is a super spreader.

Fecktards using that tweet to blast America.

Jan 24, 2021, 10:24 AM

We have our warts, for sure, but the increasingly popular and acceptable idea that America is evil and the real problem in the world (in this case, worse than Russia) is pure bullshat and shows what happens when you add the internet and social media to 50 years of academic indoctrination.

The romanticism of Socialism and Communism

Re: The romanticism of Socialism and Communism

most of the people that I know who are scared of socialism have little intrinsic value of their own. They are afraid that the days of exploiting others may come to an end, and their new value will be in their actual contributions to a business or society as a whole. My boss is a great example, he is completely incapable of supporting his standard of living on his own merits, and has no problem admitting it. All he has is access to capital.

so in essence that makes him little more than a middle man, although I consider him a friend, a parasite as well. you rewrite the rules of how money is loaned and the employees learn that they can band together and form a collective, then there is no need for an owner. And I bet that scares a lot of people, especially those whose labor holds little value.

LOL

Jan 24, 2021, 12:04 PM

I will never have any problem competing with you or any socialist collective.

If you want to compete with your boss, leave and start your own company. You might have to start small to build a business, but if you have a good business plan, you can get money.

I was a engineering manager for a construction company and left to start my own consulting firm. I never worked for a consulting firm in my life. I had zero clients, not one. I had not much money at all. I bought a PC and some used copy and blueprint machines and rented a small office and was the only employee. In just a couple years I had 18 employees, then I became a single father and had to raise 2 girls so I dropped back and my business really suffered. I finally figured it out after a couple decades.

There is NOTHING keeping anyone from starting a socialist collective and competing with their current employer. Do it if you want to.

I built the company I am at from scratch in an industry with a 90% failure rate for startups., the owner is an umbrella. I am 10% shareholder without investing a dime, plus .7% off the top. I am his retirement plan, he is my opportunity to run a company. it is symbiotic in that sense, but remove the money from the situation and he performs no actual role. He sits at home most days opening envelopes and collects on his investments, I just happen to be one of them.

when I left my perfectly good paying job in Charlotte to take this offer, I walked into an empty office with no clients. That was 3 years ago. We hired two new production staff last year and will do the same this year. I recently helped steer us into a government contract to partner with a renewable energy company out of Dallas that is converting gas derelict stations into electric charging stations and hydrogen. We are poised to have an amazing year.

How is Detroit?

Easy solution, tell him you want 50% or you walk

Jan 24, 2021, 12:53 PM

he'd be an idiot not to if what you say is true. In fact he would have zero choice.

Then when you own 50% you can split that with everyone else!

Re: Easy solution, tell him you want 50% or you walk

Jan 24, 2021, 5:52 PM

Or he can fire him and find another with "gumption" enough to jump in and carry on... until that person gets the "I am the only reason this company exists" attitude and moves on as well. Capitalism at its finest. Some people have ideas and structure, others put the working detail together and they become the team. But the one who hires the second is still "da man".

Socialistic minded folk always forget that teams always have a captain. Then, when they do, they always all end up standing in bread line together waiting on a hand out because they get tired of giving their talent and their efforts away... seems Tbalm is almost there now. That is, a socialist acting like a capitalist.

But, what do i know. Just spit ballin' here. :)

15/hr will really hurt Restaurants around here

Jan 24, 2021, 11:49 AM

it might not be so bad in NYC or other large cities where wages are higher and cost of food is higher, but around here it is going to be a bloodbath.

Restaurants are already hurting from covid and many will go out of business. The chains will hang on and take a loss while the mom and pops go belly up. Once the competition is gone they will be able to compete again with people cooking at home.

$15 for a hostess means everyone else will demand more. How can you give someone a promotion without an increase in wages.

Other industries like chicken plans and other meat packing plants will be hurting too. $15 is more than the current average wage around here. They are very labor intensive. The price of chicken and other meats will go up a lot until the money is spent on automation to better compete.

This will 100% cause inflation. These business are already very low margin. There are no other costs to cut. Owners are not taking a cut in pay to stay in business, it just is not worth it. Better to go get another job or start a different business and let those that hang in there survive.

This will 100% cause job loss. Demand for cheap food will go down, people will have to cook at home due to higher costs.

The people that are hurt the most are the people on the lower end of the economic spectrum. Middle class folks and above simple move more money to the food budget or raise their income to cover the added inflation.

All politician should have to make a payroll at least once in their life when they have no money to make payroll.

Russian Spring? The Return of the Bolshevists?

Jan 24, 2021, 12:08 PM

I have this cartoonish image of them chasing Putin all the way to one of his Trump Tower condos or to Mara Lago.

Trigger theory of Russian Revolution Part III is that Covid 19 has woken the minds of the masses up. If there is one thing this pandemic has caused all over the world, it is a searing hunger for objective reality in a post-truth world.
