Rewatching Travis Etienne’s 72 yd TD run

Oct 11, 2020, 12:04 PM

Did you notice the very slight hesitation (not quite stutter step) as the final defender was angling to cut him off on the sideline? What an impressive innate ability to bait the defender into enough hesitation to allow Travis the extra inches to get by without going out of bounds! Either Herbie or Fowler commented during the replay that he expected the defender to take the angle to cut him off - and questioned the defender’s decision to not do that.

But Travis actually ‘tricked him’ into the indecision.

Speed. Power. Agility. And the hard work he puts in to maximize those God given talents he already possesses! And to think LSU ignored him and he was actually an ‘after thought’ for our coaches and program....

.... there really IS something in these hills.

Amazing how he stayed in bounds. And he knew he stayed in bounds. We held our breath and had to watch the replay but he knew.

Can’t remember a more impressive play

Not only was the run incredible, but the blocks by Putnam and Davis Alan were absolutely perfect. And I agree with you that Travis tricked the defender into taking the wrong angle

Yes. That half step to change the defender’s trajectory then instantaneously hitting the afterburners was amazing.

...and he has a serious afterburner. Take pure unadulterated speed and add situational awareness.

Someone else mentioned it another post but ETN has picked up this little hesitation as he lets things develop and BAM. That, and as you said, he’s learned (and I thinks he’s learned this Since his freshman season) to set up would-be tacklers, changing the angles on the fly. We’re watching a GOAT and I’m loving it.
