Remember when adults didnt give a cr@p about kids' opinions?

Aug 3, 2020, 12:19 PM

And as a kid (or young adult, if you prefer) you knew that the adults around you didn't care what you thought, so you kept it to yourself.

The good ole days.

I'm not aiming this at anyone in particular.

Suddenly being a certain age doesnt validate opinions either

People also need the flexibility to learn and change opinions over their experiences as well. But cancel culture/mob mentality wants penance, not really a freshly turned leaf

Clemson

You covered yourself with the young adults I suppose.

Because 18-23 yo are adults. They can work, go to war, enter contracts etc. the problem to me is the hypocrisy. We want them to be student athletes and I’m on that boat. But there is an entire industry making money off these “kids.” Coaches making millions of dollars per year, NCAA, acc, ESPN, bowl games. How many millions per year are put into advertisements on Clemson-Alabama, Alabama-Auburn, etc etc. It’s just odd that we harp on the “kids” for speaking up but the rest of them by all means jack up the price of tickets, increase my cable package cost, Save my seat at Buffalo Wild Wings, sell me an rv for tailgates, plenty of beer, again etc etc

Also pretty ironic that people say they're student athletes there to get an education, but many of the football players will likely be the only students on campus this fall.

Pretty much what every episode of Leave it to Beaver was about

I blame social media.

Aug 3, 2020, 1:07 PM

It gives anyone with internet access a platform to:

-Consume bad information
-Be easily influenced by others
-Share their opinion repeatedly

The third point is the most dangerous. Sure, the internet in general allows for people to consume fake news and other crap. But with social media, they can more readily hear the opinions of others while also sharing their own opinions more easily.

Now we have people of all ages thinking they are more informed and enlightened than they really are, believing that their voice is more important than it really is.

It makes me dislike people a lot more than I used to.

Yeah, it was wonderful when you didn't have to listen to Babyboomers and their "outrage"
