Recruiting = Stock Investing (long term)

Jul 1, 2018, 8:51 AM

It occurred to me that there were similarities in these two disciplines...

5 stars = Blue chip stock (solid bets)

3 stars = Penny stock (high risk)

To win in “The Market” you need to develop a good investment strategy.

Many believe in going with the proven, tried & true steady gainers (5 star/blue chips) which will grow your fund at a generally reliable pace.
Then there are those who go ALL-IN with the upstarts and IPO’s (3 Star/small caps) which give you a shot at tremendous gains in the short term but come with high risk.

Depending on what your Investment Capital is at the start has a lot to do with your initial approach, but as you begin to make gains, it’s good to re-assess your strategy.....every good investor is constantly doing research on his holdings and potential new acquisitions!!!

Some just use the high risk approach to get to the low risk approach and put their fund on Cruise Control, which is a common (and sometimes lazy) method, while others are what we refer to as Contrarians.

Contrarians see the value of keeping a certain amount of high risk/reward in their portfolio for the benefits received when one or two of those low level investments Hit it Big and energizes the Whole Fund to accelerated gains!

Dabo & staff seem to be the Contrarians in their approach, but they’re NOT just taking shots in the dark... they do a tremendous amount of Homework on All of their investments and that’s what has brought such a great trajectory to our Fund (Football Program).
They take the time to look at all the Fundamentals of each new investment to insure a good balance in the account.

I like my odds going with Dabo!!!

The 0 stars are the penny stock.

Would that be the preferred walk ons?

They haven't even IPO'd yet. No monetary investment

in a scholarship. Watching what they do to see if we invest when we can.

Good point...

This is a better analogy. Also, to carry this analogy one step further, Dabo is the Warren of recruiting. Okay, that may be stretching a little since Warren has a much longer record, but you get the point.

Great analogy except three stars are more like growth stocks

Jul 1, 2018, 9:55 AM

It's going to take time to see them return any dividends or reach their goal but to call them penny stocks? Way too harsh. Growth stocks will not provide a chart that skyrockets in many cases but the ones that do make it will give better than expected returns than some four or five stars.

I agree with you here (see amended star ratings above in “Good point”), and also about EXPECTATIONS ON RETURNS from the Fanbase/Alums.

We, as a Fanbase, can get carried away with either approach and introduce dissent among the stockholders which is not good for the overall Fund (Football program). That’s why I like the Balanced Portfolio that Dabo & staff have constructed.
We can capitalize off both strategies to keep the shares multiplying by re-investing into The Fund without having a big sell-off from anxious investors.

As Jim Kramer likes to say....

“Bulls make money and Bears make money, but Pigs Get Slaughtered”!!!

Would reinvesting or drips be the legacy players?

any coach who considers star ratings in their evaluation needs to be fired.

Totally agree. The coaches and staff get paid for a reason. They know talent.
