Read where making Washington DC a state would violate Constitution.

Nov 3, 2020, 6:13 PM

Article 1, Sec 8, Clause 17 of the U.S. Constitution provides Explicity for a National Capital that would not be a part of a state, nor treated as a state..

but rather be a Jurisdiction under the exclusive authority of Congress and be a neutral “DISTRICT” in which All Representatives of the Stated could meet on an equal footing to conduct the Nation’s Business.

Oh, do the DEMs know this? LOL

DC residents are taxed without representation

Nov 3, 2020, 6:23 PM

They have no House or Senate reps and pay extremely high taxes. Make it a state or stop taxing the residents. I’m fine with either option.

You're not the only person who's ever noticed that, believe it or not. It's a major issue in statehood and plenty of constitutional scholars do not believe it limits the ability to make DC a state. There have been House hearings about the issue.

Nice try at some weird gotcha, but it helps if you understand what you're talking about first.

Of course it does matter! - It violates our Constitution.

Do you follow the original constitution

Nov 3, 2020, 6:43 PM

Or the constitution that is in place now after amendments were made? The founding fathers were smart enough to know that certain laws would need to be changed, especially 250 years later.

Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.

You know there are private citizens in DC too, right?

Nov 3, 2020, 6:58 PM

The Constitution just outlines how to protect the federal seat of government from State laws. You could could always have an independent Capital Building, Mall, White House inside of a State.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

DC is a city not a state. Statehood would be ridiculous.

Nov 3, 2020, 7:01 PM

They can join Maryland and let the Capitol, WH and mall be on its own

Peuto Rico is voting for statehood

We should definitely go back to 48 states and let Hawaii and Alaska be free
