So Clemson is getting rid of the pool??

Jun 12, 2019, 8:19 PM

I’m gonna be spending $27,000 on CU when my daughter starts there this fall, and they can’t have a pool? But they’ll have freakin’ softball!!

My son (a junior) is on the club team

Jun 12, 2019, 8:39 PM

Sucks for them, but I guess we don’t know the results of the study yet

There is a whole freaking lake sitting over there. Why do the snowflakes need a pool?

No cement pond? Bummer

Jun 12, 2019, 8:56 PM

Assume you're talking about the one in Fike. We used to
like to go over there in the 80s to check out the girls.
Guess they'll have to go jump in the lake now

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's called Lake Hartwell

Jun 12, 2019, 9:42 PM

And your daughter will be sliding down that little ####, but probably won't tell you about it.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Since when have pool and lake been interchangeable

Jun 12, 2019, 10:06 PM

A lane pool is a much different thing . It's not for lounging.

I'm actually quite upset by this. I have many good memories of going to the fike pool

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

a lot of folks are upset about it

Jun 13, 2019, 8:06 AM

the local triathlete community is really upset

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have seen distance swimmers in Hartwell lately

Jun 13, 2019, 9:35 AM [ in reply to Since when have pool and lake been interchangeable ]

obviously not optimal but it can be done

Facilities are old and outdated and are way behind other universities.

Re: So Clemson is getting rid of the pool??

Jun 12, 2019, 11:36 PM

We enjoyed intramural water polo at Fike. Not having a pool at a major university seems foreign to me. SMH

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This seems dumb to me, but

Jun 13, 2019, 7:15 AM

IIRC the pool was not even Olympic-sized. If it's the same pool from when I was at summer camp in the 1980's, it's got to be pretty dated by now. Maybe they'll put in a new one soon. That would be a nice gift from IPTAY, actually, should someone care to lobby them for it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I remember Fike being rebuilt in the early 2000’s.

Jun 13, 2019, 7:51 AM

I’m guessing it’s not the same pool from the 80’s...but don’t know for sure.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that's the rumor and what most believe on campus

Jun 13, 2019, 8:05 AM

and they are definitely closing the pool at the end of July

they got rid of one of the pool's revenue generators, when they did not renew the agreement with the local kids' swim team to let them practice in the pool

Campus rec has made several weird decisions in the past few years...

for example, they spent thousands of dollars putting in a sauna and steam room on the pool deck just over a year ago

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: that's the rumor and what most believe on campus

Jun 13, 2019, 9:05 AM

My kids always go to The CAT Invitational there every winter which is for 6-18 year old swimmers. The university is closing the pool on 7/31/19 indefinitely for "feasibility studies" which means it will no longer be in use. This is a complete joke in my opinion to close it down. ###.

There are petitions being signed by several swim teams to keep it open. I doubt the University cares enough though.......

THIS IS B.S.!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: that's the rumor and what most believe on campus

Jun 13, 2019, 10:06 AM

agree.. it's total B.S.

there are petitions going around on campus too

but i doubt they will do much good
