Who was that big bruiser of a running back

Mar 16, 2020, 1:46 PM

we had several decades back? I remember seeing him at Willie Brice with 3 gamecocks on his back and still getting yards.

Yes Marvin was 6'4 240 in the late 70's, he was a monster back then. Think he was drafted by the colts in 1980 if my old memory serves me well.

Found it...Raymond Priester. A real work horse.

Priester was the running back on the 1995 team, but the player you're most likely referring to is fullback Emory Smith. I was on the front page of the Greenville News with Emory getting my team shirt signed by him at Fan Day prior to the 1995 season.

(Start at 2:37:56 for "The Drag")

The play has grown in folklore over the year (i.e. folks here saying, "he dragged two or three defenders on his back). It was an impressive run, made more exciting by Bob Rathbun's call.

Thanks for this and all of your other work. I have been your youtube subscriber for several years. BTW do you know what happened to the other guy who posted games but had to take them down?
