Cause they have a smart coach and we are stuck with one as dumb as a rock!

Believe that would be because of the fans - Mogambu ... They obviously out-fan us !! -<img border=">

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

They don't have the expense of a football team.

Recruiting..coaching. Is it as simple as that?

but I can't remember a time when Gonzaga wasn't good.

They haven't had a year with less than 21 wins since 1997 (about the time I started following college sports).

They had a history similar to ours before that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's easy.

Dec 23, 2019, 11:44 PM

Gonzaga has 21 consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament & thus have built themselves into a national brand & built a loyal, passionate fan base. They alao have the good fortune of having a top-notch coach who is happy where he is & doesn't seem interested in moving to a bigger school in a power conference.

Zaga is to b-ball what we are to football--a national power in a weak conference. Except we have championships, they do not.

Everybody wants to know how to create a winning program in the toughest basketball conference on the planet. You don't, unless your name is Tony Bennett. If you really want a great basketball program, join the Colonial League. Or the West Coast League. Or the
----- League, some place where you only have 2 competitive conference games per year.

Problem is that might require us to leave the ACC in football. We don't ever want that, do we?

I bet most people in the USA know coach Few's name and how good he is. But I doubt that anyone outside of the ACC could even guess who our coach is or what he has accomplished or any player on our team.

'nuff said.

Why can’t other schools be #1 in football like we can?

Dec 24, 2019, 9:55 AM

It’s simple, right? Just go hire a Dabo.

Finding great coaches who love a school, are very successful there, and want to stay is really hard to do. In fact, it’s rare.

Absolutely. And the surest way to never find that rare coach is stick with one who is definitely not that kind of coach. Your arguments don’t even pass the slightest test of logic anymore.

Re: LOL okay***

Dec 25, 2019, 7:57 PM

Lol? Are you actually trying to argue that Brownell is the coach to lead us to championships at Clemson? If so, you’re more off your rocker than I already think. By your logic with Brownell we should have kept Bowden in 2008. Tommy Bowden’s tenure was, even by football standards, significantly more successful that Brownell’s has been. So why let him go when we’re gonna have to settle for a position coach with no experience. You should clearly only make a change when the outcome is guaranteed to improve right? Nevermind that no such guarantee actually exists. Brad Brownell in his entire career has never beaten a top 5 team. Ever. Shyatt, Purnell, Foster, Ellis all did. He is not going to take Clemson to new heights.

Dec 26, 2019, 1:06 PM

He likes very, very bad basketball. Ten years! Ten years fiddle fart-ing around with an ACC program with no identity, a bunch of mis-matched YMCA players, transfers not cutting it at their preferred schools, losing to arch-rival at home and just generally looking like a seventh grade P.E. teacher is not enough to keep going. Sorry, 'loving' Clemson is unrequited.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Very, very bad basketball?!?

Dec 26, 2019, 1:29 PM

We have been clearly middle of the pack in the ACC during Brad’s tenure, on average.

I’m not sure why you feel the need to be so dramatic. We haven’t been nearly as bad as you state, and you know it.

Most seasons with Brad it has been bad basketball. Any season where the team doesnt go to the tournament is bad basketball in my book. Brad has gone to the tournament one time with his players. 5 times he didnt even make the lowly NIT. Yeah it's been bad basketball overall. He may turn it around next year with what we will have returning and coming in, but overall its been bad basketball under Brad. It doesn't mean he isn't on the right track. Time will tell.

Re: Very, very bad basketball?!?

Dec 26, 2019, 2:43 PM

He averages 8th in the conference since expansion (and that's giving him full benefit of this 3rd place finish which was actually a 4 way tie). That sounds great until you realize that would have been last or dead last for every other coach in our history besides Purnell. And before he chimes in about how tough expansion has made the ACC - the ACC has never had a lower percentage of its teams make the NCAA tournament since the tourney expanded to 64 teams than the ACC has since expansion to 15 teams over a similar period of time. So basically he racks up some wins against a historically bad bottom of the ACC while beating no one (zero all-time wins against top 5 teams). That is why we're left home from the tournament virtually every year and frequently don't even make the NIT.

I looked at this weeks poll and had to go back and check it 2-3 times....even teams receiving votes. Nowhere did I see UNC's name. Wow. Shame we are so bad this year or we may would have a chance to end the streak.
