Pardon the recency bias, but Amari Rogers did just fine. Had a TD against BC, I believe, and was very dependable catching the ball.

Ray Ray is doing fine in the NFL. Averaging 8-10 yards a return I believe.

I'd say Justin Miller was the best at it.

had a knack for making the right cut and did it while welcoming contact. CJ was the best at making a cut and getting away from everyone and we all knew if there was any daylight it was over. But if i had to bring back one dude that was money every time he got the ball it was Justin Miller.

I’m showing my age but Willie Underwood was pretty good. Had healthcare administration class with him. He wore a T shirt that said “Willie’s return service “!

I've been watching the tigers since the late 70s..........

There have been very few punt returners that really striked fear in opposing teams. If I had to rank them I would say:
1. Derrick Hamilton-he was a very good kick returner as well. 2. Donnell Woolford-he was terrible early in his career. really came on as a junior and senior. 3. Justin Miller-very dependable to catch and get yards. 4. Amari Rodgers-he was so shifty and didn't lose yards.
I know some people mention Ray Ray but he dropped so many. He was a liability back there. We really haven't had that many threats. I've got to admit our offense has been so good I'm ok with a fair catch at this point.

No CJ ???
TBF - Spiller and Ford split Punt Return duty but I feel you here.
IMO CJ Spiller is the best All-Purpose player I've seen come through Clemson ??

FAIR CATCH...this is crazy with the amazing skills that we've put on the field. IDK if it's a philosophy to not take advantage of them (stupid) or the blocking schemes are so bad/wrong that no one gets a chance to run with the ball upfield.

Seems to me the punters today are going for hang time instead of distance , therefore making a lot of their punts nearly impossible to return .

... minimize the risks associated with attempting either return or block a punt?
A muffed punt after getting the other team off the field is a disaster. So is a 15 yard roughing penalty.
We’ve been plenty good on offense that we don’t need to take that chance.
Our coaches seem to know what they’re doing .

I would flip Miller and Ford, but that is a great top 3.

Spiller and Ford looked like a home run threat each and every time they took off. Miller did not have that kind of killing speed or moves.

I'll add the greatest punt returner to play against us was Deon Sanders. Remember THAT game where he told Bowden and the Tigers on the sidelines what he would do?

Yes. He pointed to the Southeast end zone corner, then took it to that spot for TD.

Louisville in 2014. Only other TD we got that day was a fumble recovery. Got a few FGs and squeaked out a win by 6. We’ve had better returners...but getting a TD in a nail biter like that was crucial.

I just read through all the comments because I wanted to post humphries. That was one of the most impactful punt returns.
Good call - should’ve logged on sooner!
