Not COVID-19......but I did get Shingles in my eye...

Apr 19, 2020, 10:28 AM

Public service....if you are over 50, get the shingles vaccine.

This is incredibly painful!

It’s dangerous in the eye. Did you get valtrex in time, and can you get the vaccine under 65?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You can get the vaccine at 50....sadly I am not 50 yet.

Apr 19, 2020, 11:12 AM

Got the valtrex within 48 hours. Scary that even with treatment, 25% have permanent eye damage. Hoping all will be well.

It feels like electric spiders crawling across my eye.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

When I got it, you had to be 65

Apr 19, 2020, 11:28 AM

I recognized the symptoms and got the medicine within a few hours of pain. Good luck. - by the way, your are contagious to people who never had chicken pox. The bad doctor I went to didn’t bother to tell me.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah.....knew about the chickenpox

Apr 19, 2020, 12:56 PM

Have not gone anywhere but the drive through pharmacy to get my meds. Amazing your doc did not tell you.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was clueless, and working around somebody at risk

Apr 19, 2020, 1:03 PM

If I had told medical, they would have restricted me from coming in. I'm hoping that going forward, people will stop coming to work sick and making others sick. The turtle opposes sick leave because he says people will abuse it, but companies lose so much productive time because more workers get sick because their coworkers won't stay home.

Apr 19, 2020, 6:29 PM [ in reply to When I got it, you had to be 65 ]

There is a caveat to ur statement: yes you are contagious to those who have not had chicken pox OR varicella vaccine. There are very few who haven’t had one or the other so the “herd immunity “ factor is significant. Also whereas chicken pox is a respiratory illness primarily and spread by aerosol droplet person to person, contagion by shingles would require direct skin to skin or skin to mucous membrane contact. So probability of contagion is very low.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree....but would hate to be responsible for giving someone chicken pox

Apr 19, 2020, 6:34 PM

Does not hurt to be aware of the possibility

That sounds painful. I once had a sty and that was terrible. I hope you feel better soon.

General knowledge is that a sty is caused from peeing in the road.

Oh no - LadyTiger !! -<img border="> It is incredibly painful.. speaking from experience!! Assuming you are seeing an ophthalmologist?? I had it very near an eye - and my doc couldn’t get me there fast enough!! Praying all will be OK !!

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

Went to the ophthalmologist within 24 hours because my eye hurt...

Apr 19, 2020, 12:54 PM

No sign of a rash at that time. She said I had an infected oil glad on my eyelid and gave me an antibiotic.

12 hours later the rash appeared on my face. My doctor wants me to go see her again on Monday for a checkup.

Hopefully you have received something for the pain ... My pharmacist compounded a gel with lidocaine and other ingredients using a Lipoderm base that helped a lot for the skin rash pain ...Think it’s a pretty common ointment .. although probably could not be used directly on your eye ...

Lady Tiger,
I am so sorry for what you’re going through. I’ve had shingles 5 times and know it is horribly painful! One thing I’ve learned is an ice pack gives some temporary comfort.
My neighbor had it in his eye and was temporarily blinded by it but fully recovered over time.
You have my completely empathy. One question is did they give you Neurontin? That does help at the right dose.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Are you on daily doses of acyclovir or equivalent

Apr 19, 2020, 2:06 PM

I know people with immune system issues that take it every day as a preventative. After five times, they should prescribe that if you don't issues with it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I am on an antiviral....

Apr 19, 2020, 3:11 PM [ in reply to Re: Not COVID-19......but I did get Shingles in my eye... ]

And gabapintin for nerve pain. Tylenol and Advil.

They wanted to put me on prednisone too....but I am allergic to it.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Shingles in the eye sounds truly awful!!!

Apr 19, 2020, 4:32 PM

Have said a prayer for your well being and recovery . . . And will keep you covered in prayer until you tell us differently.

I am sorry you're having to endure that mess!!!
