Dec 5, 2017, 9:13 AM [ in reply to Re: What does this have to do with Clemson football?*** ]

Why is there always a need to place a label on everything? I consider myself a conservative, have family that served in the military, and haven't lost a second of sleep over the NFL protests. I also think the people outraged over it have vastly overreacted. Kneeling is considered respectful if you're proposing marriage, if you want to show respect to another person, when praying, or even in football when players kneel for an injuried teammate, but let some guys do it in front of the flag and everyone losses their minds? I'm also embarrassed when I see grown adults calling other adults names such as snowflakes whenever they don't share the same opinion. Are we seriously back in the 3rd grade and can't have a mature conversation with someone about our views without resorting to name calling?

Re: lol stopped at "proposing marriage" because what a ######

Dec 5, 2017, 11:43 AM

Well the point was that in every other aspect the act of kneeling is a sign of respect, but in this case people want to make it out to be the most offensive thing they've ever seen or something. Personally, I'd like to have seen the players find a different way to protest that didn't divide so many, but I just don't see it as this thing that should cause so many people to be outraged. You can only be offended and outraged if you choose to be, which is ironic that so many of those outraged people are the ones calling other people snowflakes.

Dec 5, 2017, 12:56 PM [ in reply to What does this have to do with Clemson football?*** ]

This has everything to do with football and every facet of our lives. We salute, we kneel, we protest, we #####, we praise and we have the right to do as we please as long as it's legal. We have the right to develop character and respect for those things that grant us all of these freedoms. It's not the flag, the constitution or any symbol of this great country that infringes on our right to these privileges, it's those humans who attempt to derive us of our rights. Appears to me the protests are aimed at the wrong target. Granted, our government does things that many of us may not approve but, we have a legitimate means for a peaceful protest.

And why do we have these many privileges? Because there were men and women who were willing to risk their lives to achieve our freedom from the injustices of the British. And we have been able to retain these privileges because there were men and women who, since our independence, have risked their lives. I proudly salute those men and women who have made it possible for me to enjoy life here in this great country.

Dec 5, 2017, 11:40 AM [ in reply to Re: They Do But The VAST Majority of Vets Would Tell You ]

Most won't admit it, but it is a race issue with many of the people who are 'offended" by the kneeling. I'm not speaking for any person on here, and I'm not saying it's the case for 100% of people, but I've seen so many of the same people who say of the kkk and neo-nazi's that "I don't like what they stand for, but I support their right to peacefully protest" being way offended over this and asking for the players to be cut, with many even wanting to see the NFL go under over this.

Funny that so many including our president are so offended over this, but support the rights of groups that are in support of sides we literally fought wars against(nazi's and confederates). You can't tell me race doesn't play a major role in that.

Having led literally 100s of them in my former career and I would tell you almost without exception NONE of them blame societal inequities on our Anthem or Patriotism or our Nation. Racial inequity is caused by a series of complex social, historical and economic issues.

This won't get fixed by a bunch of folks disrespecting those who protect their very freedoms. This gets fixed by engagement, investment and common respect for our brothers and sisters.

Dec 5, 2017, 10:03 AM

Had it not been for those who fought under this flag the world would've been taken over by tyranny. Millions upon millions died in WW2 as a result mass murdering dictators. Everywhere this flag was raised in Europe and Asia it meant the liberation of millions from murderous regimes. We have problems but this nation has risen up time and time again against tyranny and injustice whether inside or outside of our borders. My grandfather was a crew member on a B17 in Europe during WW2. He always had respect for the flag. He saw firsthand the sacrifices made for freedom. He inspired my to do the same. As a man that has spent time overseas in the military I would encourage these people whining about injustices to go to some of these places I have been and live under their rule. They'll be ready to kiss the ground when they come back if they make it out alive.

Ummmm, the knee-bending has nothing to do with the flag or the military. They are protesting about what they perceive as mistreatment of African-Americans by the police.

The idea that it somehow is against the U.S. or the Military is a false narrative pushed by the conservative media.

Facts matter. :)

But that is a false narrative too. Sure there have been a couple that have been overreach, but in those instances and in any that the officer has been found in the wrong they have been prosecuted. You can judge the entire police department off of a few. The black people, nor any group wants to be judged on a few of their own race, yet they do that to our law enforcement. We were taught to stand at attention during the Star Spangled Banner and raising of the flag, with our hands over our hearts. Or military salute for military and ex-military. Kneeling during the anthem to me is disrespectful to our flag, our country and those who have sacrificed so much to keep us free. Feel free to protest whatever you feel is an injustice but find another way.

That's why I'm not watching the NFL and am not supporting its sponsors.

Well tnet friends,I didn't mean to stir up a hornets nest here- just to tell the vets on our board that I appreciate their many sacrifices for our country.

Whether the protesters intend to harm the vets feelings or not is not the point- the point is that most vets do take offense. For you libs, what happened to your principle of absolutely destroying some person who innocently uses a term that some protected group or minority could find offensive- even though they mean no offense or had no idea they could be offending someone.

These flag protesters know they are offending most vets but you are giving them a pass. Most vets would also say they are willing to risk their lives to protect yr right of free speech and that they should have the right to say what they want- but as a society, we should scorn the actions of these folks offending the feeling of the vets as strongly as we do when someone says something offensive to other groups or minorities.

Just my 2 cents- thanks for all yr responses both positive and negative- I am sorry it took so long to follow up- I've been really busy today and just sat down from work.

Youroffendong most vets, because most vets are whites . All vets don’t agree with you though, including myself. And yes, racism is tied into the equation.

They are kneeling against white supremacy and the systems of it. Police brutality, whatever you want to add in. The prison system.

The whole system has been and still is setup against blacks. If you do not know that laws passed throughout post civil war American history were against blacks and still are til this day , you should take a history class.

We kneel because 75% of blacks are locked up, when they make up what 15% of the population? We kneel for many reasons

We kneelers-

We,

Respect the flag
Respect the Country
Respect our Veterans

We do not respect

-Racists, or people who tell us when and where we may protest. For you are a part of the system.
