In-state prospect gets coveted Clemson offer after suffering knee injury

Cooper Dawson has had quite a week. Dawson (6-5, 245), a 2019 2-star out of Hanahan (SC), was offered by Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and offensive coordinator Tony Elliott Wednesday evening. Clemson extended the offer as an offensive tackle. Full Story »

Dude, you blew your big chance.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would love to see him as a OL for us

Jun 14, 2018, 12:02 AM

If Dabo and Tony see him having a NFL shot as a Offensive lineman, I’d love to see him develop and help us on the OL!

I hate it he had the injury but I hope he understands Dabo doesn’t miss on offers like that!!

Dabo is an awesome coach not worried about stars but about real football players!

Of course he has to rehab and then add weight and strength, but I'm glad that we stuck with this guy. That's Clemson. Now, they can surgically rebuild a knee in terms of the ligaments, which are the major factor. If he puts in the work, he'll be fine.

There’s only 1 Dabo Swinney in the world and thank the Good Lord we got him***

Small for your size. It may depend on what position you tried out for too we are a little thin at defensive guard have you thought about playing there or offensive end?

So, what is your point???

"Headscratcher" is the best description....

Jun 14, 2018, 1:50 PM

3*, outside of top 1500, 250lb and too slow to play TE/DE, bad knee injury, never played a down on the OL....

2*, but agreed, I've seen him play in person and wasn't dominant against low end talent. Not sure how I feel about this but the coaches must like his drive and I hope he can prove us wrong.

I trust our coaches to make the right decisions for the program, but this is one of the strangest offers I've ever seen.

Maybe since he is slow for a TE and a DE he fits better on the OL?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not at the D1 level...

Jun 14, 2018, 4:37 PM

If he runs at 5.0 40 at 250lbs (for comparison, Dexter runs about the same at 340lbs), then he will be even slower at 300lbs playing OL. That is just not physically talented enough to contribute substantially for a national championship contender.

If this kid is actually good enough, then I hope he proves me wrong. In a class when we have absolutely got to land some stud OLmen to increase talent in that group and keep up with other top programs, this is just a strange offer.

Re: Not at the D1 level...

Jun 14, 2018, 4:53 PM

Yeah, but Dexter black. That's not a fair comparison. On a more serious note though, yeah I completely agree it seems like an odd offer. That said, maybe he is very agile, with long arms, and will be a good 6ft 5 300lb OT, that runs a 5.2 with great footwork. Let's hope.

Re: Not at the D1 level...

Jun 14, 2018, 5:48 PM

50-60 more pounds and runs .2 seconds slower? I would be amazed, also the reasoning you gave to their speed was pretty stupid.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Not at the D1 level...

Jun 14, 2018, 6:10 PM

I was joking around. Lighten up. That said, not really that stupid. As far as putting on 50 to 60lbs and only slowing .2 in the 40. That's not far fetched at all. He is probably not running the fastest 40 he is capable of. Moreover, he may be in way better shape and more physically mature in a couple years. There is a often a big difference between a 17 year old and a 20 to 21 year old. There is no telling.
