Well boys the tornadoe got me last night...

Apr 13, 2020, 9:52 AM

Ripped off part of my roof, broke out windows and ripped off my door. Amazingly the trampoline we have outside in the back yard never moved.

Sorry to hear that. Guessing that means that the people’s are safe?***

At least there is a bright side, and that is that you and your family/loved ones are safe!!! Also, while repairs are being done, you, and your family members can go sit on or bounce around on the trampoline that was untouched by one of the most deadly factors of an angry mother nature with her violate storms.

There isn't much that I do fear, but a violate mother nature and her storms has been by far my biggest fear in my life time. Even though I was a young kid when me an my family was in the direct path of a violet Tornado in the late 50s, I still remember how terribly scared we wear gathered in the hallway of this huge house we lived in, in Summerton SC. There was this very huge oak tree right outside the porch that circle about 3/4 of this house where we lived, and that Tornado ripped off that side of the house and uprooted that huge tree to where all the roots were expose with a huge hole in the ground about 15 feet in diameter, and that picture has always been stamped in my mind.

I was living in Manning SC when Hugo ripped through and clear paths through the woods like a pulpwood crew had just finished cutting down the down all those trees. I have in my life time seen and witnessed the brutal strength of mother nature, and if you know in advance when she is coming your way, "You Better" get the H&11 out of her way if you're smart enough to understand the type of violence that she is capable of, she is unmerciful if you're in her path!!!

I'm so glad that you and your family are survivors of the wrath of mother natures violent storms bc, she has claimed many lives in her history, and she has done so in her early season so far this season. In my truest of honesty, I am scared chitless of storms, and if I have enough warning when they're coming, I'll lock my house up and pray that it's still there when I come back to it bc, I'm getting the H&ll out of there until the threat is over!!!

I guess comforting to know that here in Central, they didn't bother to run the tornado siren while your roof was being ripped off 3 miles away. We just lost power for several hours, requiring me to toss everything in my cheap apartment fridge.

Apr 13, 2020, 10:43 AM [ in reply to Re: Well boys the tornadoe got me last night... ]

this AM.

That's the same storm that passes through the Seneca/Clemson/upstate area earlier.

They are so awful, and you're right that weird stuff happens with them. We went through a few years when each year for 4 years in a row we had one to come through our farm, but each year they were just a few hundred yards off the path of the ones before. Luckily, we haven't had one in the last several years on our place, but some have hit our area. They make the most terrible mess to clean up, not to mention the financial loss and loss of life for some. Fortunately, we had no loss of life, there have been several killed nearby, though. Prayers for y'all.

Sorry to hear. A tornado on top of all of this Covid stuff is a real gut punch. It would be easy to get discouraged. Keep your head up and let those around you help; that is why they are there. Remember, we will all soon be sitting in the Valley once again living large.

Glad to know no one was hurt.

I'm at the Downs and didn't know anything about the tornado until about 9:30. My daughter was up during the storm and started to call me to get in a safe place but then she got word it had already passed by this area.

Your post reminds me of my Dad . . .

Apr 13, 2020, 1:55 PM

He slept through the remnants of one of the hurricanes that hit SC's Coast and worked its way through Sumter . . . He was awakened as a pecan limb came careening through his bedroom, cutting his forehead.

I visited him the next day from NC to get the roof temporarily patched and check on him. I asked, "What the h3ll were you doing asleep?!!!" He grinned and replied, "Son, a man with a clear conscience can sleep through anything."

I thought my Dad was one of a kind . . . but many of you Tigers are just like him!!!

Hugo sounded like a Locomotive was bearing down on us with a full head of steam with a 100 rail cars in tow. It was absolutely frightening, My wife and I at the time, we put on our motorcycle helmets, a ski vest, and hunkered down in a bathroom and just prayed. Things and places all around where we were living were being ripped apart, and our house was never touched, but from the sound, we thought we would be gone in just a few minutes!!!

Apr 14, 2020, 7:00 AM

We had a 85 foot oak crash into our house last April during a bad storm. By the grace of God it didn’t split the house because I was running right where it crashed to grab my son and bring him to downstairs bathroom. The couple months after were stressful worrying if insurance would cover everything but they ended covering everything and more. Hope it all works out for you.

Glad you and yours are safe, Cop. It was BAD.

Apr 14, 2020, 10:13 AM

I watched a 20 minute or so helicopter video of the devastated Borg Warner plant (RIP to the security guard), and they panned to a house a couple of hundred yards away. There was almost nothing left, all walls of the garage were gone and the two cars were upside-down in what appeared to be the kitchen. Horrifying stuff. I think they were ok too; there were some folks around the house and digging through the wreckage in the video. Prayers for you and all other families affected!

Next time get everyone to meet under the trampoline befo the next big storm.

Apr 14, 2020, 7:05 PM

Sorry for the damage. That can be fixed/replaced.

Safe family is all that matters.
