The worst thing that could ever happen to a fighter: “You got civilized.”
When I was at Clemson in 1976, the film Rocky 1 came out. The sound track of The Eye of the Tiger was great. The film was about an underdog who constantly over excelled. Rocky loses the fight; but, he gains the respect of the boxing world and returns to beat the champion.
Rocky 3 came out in 1982. It showcased a lazy Rock more interested in commercials and money than fighting. Rocky’s trainer told him: “You were a great fighter. You were superhuman. Then, the worst thing happened to you: You got civilized.” Clubber Lane comes along and beats him.
The UNC game yesterday shows me that Clemson is now civilized. I feel we lack that killer mentality that is needed to win. Perhaps we are too concerned with making feel good movies or playing so many players in a game. We are not focused. This Clubber Lane did not beat us. But, from now forward, we will meet everyone's Clubber Lane--hungry and focused. We need to stop and focus. Go back to the basics of how and why we got to where we are and be great again. Stop being civilized.

We're not civilized. We're not as good. We lost some key talent. We arw growing. Lets see by year end. My gut is that we will be way better next year when our DL is stacked again and if we can replace Simmons somehow..

Great analogy, but as a Rocky movie fan, you got your movies wrong. Rocky’s manager Mickey told Rocky he got civilized in Rocky III before he got beat by Clubber Lang.

Eye of the Tiger was from Rocky III, not Rocky 1.

Rocly came out in 1976, Rocky 3 in 1982.
