Watching #3 Louisville vs. #5 Clemson 2016 on ACCN

May 16, 2020, 9:43 AM

I am being reminded of how great that game was! Clemson needs another like that Louisville team to give us in-conference competition.

I'm reminded of how much we have misses Jordan Leggett.

You read my mind--thinking the same. We really need a TE to step up like Leggett did that year.

He was no where near picking up the needed yards . . . GREAT effort on our part . . . but lame @ss attempt on theirs.

That's the thing--he wasn't thinking.

I have seen so many great games in the Valley its hard to rate but that one was up there.

1. Georgia in 81
2. Florida St with Deion even tho a loss. He was a beast. Great game.
3. Coots with the catch. Mid 2000's
4. Coots in 80, prequel for 81.
5. Florida St with McDaniel INT we will rock you.

Been going to games since 80. Honorable mention was the Miami game we lost in OT. Loudest game to me.

Probably the more I think could be more and different order. This is after some Virgil Kaine.

Never seen so many fumbles or Int’s in my life at DV but what fun!

Those guys were playing some hard-hitting football and having fun doing it.

I have watched it numerous times and it never gets old. Instant classic for sure. The 2 best players in college football going back and forth.

It all went down hill for Petrino and Louisville

May 17, 2020, 5:31 AM

later that season - ended with 3 straight losses to finish 9-4. Louisville went 8-5 (4-4 in ACC) in 2017 and then the awful 2018 season (2-10) with zero wins in the ACC.

I don't know that I've ever seen a team implode like that 2018 Petrino led Louisville team. By the time the 2018 Cards played in Death Valley, it was blatantly obvious that they had given up on Petrino - just going through the motions until he got fired. I can't recall ever seeing a whole team and a coach that just did not care what happened on the field. Coach Satterfield had a lot of work to do in cleaning up Petrino's mess.

Sadly, that's what happens when you have a meteoric rise with no well thought out and carefully planned program in place.

Remember running up stats for a certain QB instead of giving his backup quality playing time that could help build for the future.

That's a great example and also a way to lose your backup to the transfer portal these days.

And rely on questionable transfers kicked off other teams!

May 17, 2020, 1:55 PM [ in reply to Re: It all went down hill for Petrino and Louisville ]

That's not a sustainable recruiting philosophy.

Exactly! It would be difficult to develop and sustain any semblance of team chemistry.
