UNC Kicking the ball into stands

I know it doesn't matter now but I thought it odd when it happened so I looked at rules. Clemson punts the ball but of course we have a procedure call, punt is coming down to returner who knows the play is blown dead and as it gets to him, he kicks it into the 20th row of the stands. Rule seems to state that regardless of during play or dead time, the player should have been flagged for unsportsmanlike and 15 yards. Anyone know different?

It was a little odd. I don’t know the rule for sure, though.

I thought it would be flagged as "delay of game" . . . but what do I know?!!!

Didn't seem to phase anyone in attendance or any of our Coaches . . . so I assumed I was wrong . . . It won't be the last time I'm mistaken . . .

One person was going crazy in the stands. Me!
I was yelling 15 yrd penalty. Everyone around me thought I was crazy.
