New Story: Former Bama QB: Watson needs Young-esque performance to beat Tide

Jan 8, 2016, 8:54 PM

Former Bama QB: Watson needs Young-esque performance to beat Tide

Vince Young mesmerized the college football world with his epic performance in the 2006 Rose Bowl against USC when he ran for 200 yards and passed for 267 more, leading Texas to a 41-38 victory and the national championship. One former Alabama quarterback thinks Deshaun Watson can have that kind of performance. Full Story »

Same old, same old from another analyst. I really like McElroy, but he's not capable of being impartial when it comes to breaking down a Bama game. And that's okay with me.

All he says is the same thing every expert has said this season...compliment, compliment...then but, but, but.

To say that Deshaun will have to do what Vince Young did would tell me that you think Clemson's defense can't stop Alabama at all and that he has no help. It's silly.

Vince Young also carried the ball 19 times that game, yet he said Deshaun shouldn't run the ball that much. Which is it?

I thought that was a pretty fair assessment. Only thing I argue is Watson won't have to be perfect for Clemson to win.

Workload? He had 3 weeks off before

Oklahoma and 10 days now. That's one game in a month. Workload isn't an issue

Last time I looked its a team sport. I got your back and next man up. We just have to do what we do. Our will to win comes in many shapes, but we win. Going for 15-0. We can do this!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's 18-0 as a starter. This isn't baseball and he darn sure

didn't lose that game

If they're waiting for Deshaun to break

Jan 8, 2016, 9:02 PM

They might want to pack a few meals. There's zero reason to suspect he will break down and get injured any more than any other player on the field.

Bama and Allbarn target QBs to knock them out of the game.

Jan 8, 2016, 10:07 PM

See Colt McCoy and Kyle Parker.

Just in case they don't have the talent to win straight up.

I hope this is a clean game no one tries to intentionally hurt another player sweeping their legs, etc. our O line has done a great job of protecting him and he is capable of out maneuvering players to get clear. Go Tigers

Bama and Saban never play that way if you believe that then you watch very little of them play. Colt was simply sacked. You may win the game but haveing more talent on the field please!

My prediction at half of the OU game was, if our defense make a few stops in the 2nd half, they will give our offense a chance to win. Little did I know our D was about to shut them down. I believe we are getting ready to see similar play from the tiger defense. Protect the ball and don't give up huge margins on special teams. The overdue trophy will return to tiger town.

I think the most insulting part of the breakdowns

Jan 8, 2016, 9:14 PM

has to be the total disregard for our defense's ability to slow down their offense. While we aren't the 85 Bears, I'm fairly confident we're a hell of a lot better than anything Michigan State could put on the field.

It's a repeat of the Orange Bowl build-up, almost to the tee. I'm not saying that's how Monday night's game will be by any means, but at some point could someone realize the Tigers are undefeated for a reason and no one else is?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I think the most insulting part of the breakdowns

Jan 8, 2016, 11:20 PM

I completely agree. The better Deshaun plays, the better our chances. But, 24 to 27 points will win this game and I absolutely like our D to keep Bama below that range.

Don't believe the hype...

Jan 8, 2016, 9:14 PM

Bama has lost 2 games since the last time Clemson lost any. They are not supermen. They are not defending champions. They are under the pressure of all the lies, and down deep, they are scared of the #1 team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

^^That's a freaking huge take.

Taylor Zarzour on my short commute, thank god it's short. They literally spent the full 10 minutes one morning this week gushing how Saban is the best coach ever...better than Bear...blah blah blah. Exactly Suzzz!!! I hope that DW4 has had a lot of practice throwing the ball the past 10 days so that he doesn't have to throw the first half before he gets his throws in sink....

Bama #5 in Front 7 Havoc Rate - Clemson is #6 in nation....

Jan 9, 2016, 7:40 AM

Bama is good - very good - but as one poster says, "They aren't supermen",

Clemson is the most balanced team in the country.

It's very hard to play D when you don't know what's coming.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In other words, he has to be normal Watson

Jan 9, 2016, 12:39 PM

Vince Young wasn't/isn't close to what Deshaun Watson is.
