Sad but probably true. ESPN was asking the committee

head last night if they would take Tua injury into consideration to already lay the groundwork for this.

Oct 30, 2019, 7:55 AM

LSU and Alabama were the two teams year after year. Whoever lost and stayed home during the conference championship was going to get into a bcs game while whoever was in the conference championship had the most to lose and if lost was out. Best thing we can do is just spank whoever we play, both of them if we must.

Bad news for anyone with one loss.

IMHO: Bama beats LSU even with Jones at QB.

I’m with lovingit on this one (and to paraphrase): the Championship comes through Clemson.

Re: The easiest way for Bama to get into the playoffs...

There could be one scenario where a 1-loss Bama could be left out:
Bama lost to LSU but beats Auburn, finishing at 11-1.LSU runs the table and ends up 12-0.
Florida runs the table, ending the season at 11-1( there only loss coming at LSU.)
LSU, at 12-0 wins the West and plays an 11-1 Florida( the East) for the SECCG.
Florida wins that game and both end up the season 12-1.
Since Bama did not play for the SEC Championship and both LSU /Florida won their divisions and played for the title, ending the season at 12-1, Bama, at 11-1 is left out.

This is especially true if both Clemson, and Ohio State go undefeated, and win their conference championship games, finishing at 13-0.With both Clemson and Ohio State going undefeated no way Bama can leapfrog either of those two teams or the two SEC division winners who finish 12-1.
Even the committee isn't fool enough to put 3 SEC teams in the playoffs in this scenario.

Do you even WATCH Paul Finebaum?

In that scenario, LSU, Bama, and Florida get in.

C'mon man.

There is no language in the selection committee rules to consider division championships. Plus no one from the east is going to win the SEC. Florida/UGA may end up having 2 losses prior to that game.

If the Big-12 or PAC bring a 1 loss conference champion to the table they will not be jumped. The media loves to talk Bama. The selection committee isn't going to deliberately slight a conference champion.

Risky move to lose to LSU thinking you have the Iron Bowl game in the bag. I think they could play Tua and STILL have 2 losses by season's end.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Very strongly disagree

Oct 30, 2019, 8:24 AM

That would leave Bama at 11-1 with likely just 1 win over a ranked opponent and Auburn could easily be 8-4 by then since they still play Georgia as well.

Bama needs to beat LSU. If they lose they still have a shot but I would call it a long shot. They would need other teams like Clemson, OU, Oregon, Utah, etc to lose to really open a spot up for them.

The funniest part is the writer cites all of the things Bama has done in recent years and that should guarantee them a spot in the CFP. I guess he never watches all those 'talking heads' on ESPN say Clemson doesn't get in because its not a "Lifetime Achievement Award".

Oopsy....well that backfired on him, didn't it!

And we will spank either team. Mark it down.***

Everybody wants to reference the 2017 poll and talk about Alabama getting in as a non division winner. Nobody seems to remember that Ohio State had 2 losses. If they want to gamble that the committee will make the same decision comparing them to a 1 loss conference champion, more power to them.

That's because they did compared to OH St.... Who wins the eye test? A team that's only loss was by 12 to a top 10 team, or a team that had 2 losses, one by 31 points to an unranked team?

Re: The easiest way for Bama to get into the playoffs...

A 1 loss Bama team could certainly get in, but I don't think it would be a lock at all. I actually think LSU would have a better chance of getting in with a loss to Bama than the other way around. Unless A&M ends up in the top 25 which doesn't seem likely, then Auburn would be the only possible top 25 win for Bama if they lost to LSU.

LSU on the other hand would have wins over Auburn, Florida, and a road win against Texas who may or may not end up in the top 25 at the end, but who would most likely be viewed as a better win than Bama over Duke either way. LSU would also have the argument of the Bama loss being on the road as long as the game was close.

I think the first CFP poll would clear up a lot of the thought on the potential for Bama getting in with a loss to LSU. If they have Bama at #1 or #2 then it shows they put a lot of value on Bama to this point for one reason or another. If they have Bama at #3 or #4 then it still shows some value, but would at least show that they aren't blown away with the Bama schedule to this point which also wouldn't get a lot better after the LSU game either other than Auburn.

A lot obviously would depend on how the rest of the season goes for other teams, but if LSU, Clemson, and Ohio State went unbeaten then there would only be 1 spot left. It would be hard to argue a 1 loss Bama team that didn't make the SEC title game over a 1 loss Oklahoma or 1 loss Oregon team that won their conference while also gaining an additional win. Remember that 2 years ago Bama got in over a 2 loss conference champion.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Albariño can beat Bama especially at home. Wow ...

One of the things that determine a top team is depth. If you don’t have the depth and can’t win that’s your problem. Players out should not be taken into consideration

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What he fails to realize it that the committee has NEVER put a 1 loss non-conference champion in the CFP over a 1 loss conference champion. So his assumption is that the B12, PAC12 or Big 10 Champion have 2 losses.

The ACC champion won't have 2 losses.

OU could lose a second game. But if they do, Baylor likely wins the Big 12.

OSU is unlikely to lose two games.

PAC 12 may have two losses...but all the slots will be filled.

Bama fans subscribing to this theory, should be buying their Citrus Bowl tickets now to be the Penn State fans to the premium seats. They won't, so they'll get to watch the game from their TV's is Houndstooth, AL.
