That early OSU catch where "hand" was down.?

Dec 29, 2019, 7:52 AM

Even Herbie and Fowler didn't know what the heck the rule was. But saying that he was down in bounds just because his hand came down before his foot, is crazy to me.

That would mean when most running backs occasionally use their hand to keep themselves up...they should be down correct?? Just doesn't seem like a legit call. What say you?

It was a catch...hand touched inbounds before his foot landed out of bounds. Not sure why the confusion.

I get that his hand was in, but always thought that you had to get one foot (two feet in NFL) in. Never heard of one hand and never seen that in my 30+ years of watching football.

The broadcast “official” said any part of the body could be in.

Two different issues. He wasn't down because of the hand. He was in bounds because of it. As far as down because of the hand, something other than the hands or feet has to touch or forward progress stopped to be down.

The rule you used is the definition for how a player is down. On that catch, he only had to establish himself in bounds. If the player was turned around and his hand touched out of bounds a split second before his foot touched inbounds, then he would have been ruled out.
A toe is equal to a hand.
