That record will never be touched. 2 players in baseball hit 200 hits last year and they barely did it. You would have to get 200 hits for 21+ seasons to do that. That said, Bonds and Trout are both better players.

I think you are probably right about Rose's record not being touched. You want to know which one really will never be touched? Ricky Henderson's 1,406 stolen bases. Someone would have to steal 70 bases for 20 years. Given the preoccupation with home runs, ain't nobody coming close to this.

Barry Bonds on base percentage for a season will never be touched either. Its .609. He also has some walks records that will never be touched. DiMaggio hit streak won't be touched. Ichiro's 262 hits in a season won't be touched.

Ted Williams if we're talking hitters...
Aug 19, 2020, 6:44 PM
|
|
.344 BA
.634 SLG
.482 OBP (all-time record)
He missed 3 years during WWII and most of two years during Korean War as a Marine pilot.
Every year except his rookie and war years, he was an All Star.
And he's still with us... cryogenically speaking.

Teddy ballgame is the guy when it comes to hitting. The time he missed in the military was during him prime years too.
I saw Ted play several times and there was nothing like him. It was said that Ted had 20/10 vision which, I think is better than perfect vision. Darn good jet pilot too!
I saw Ted hit a ball out of the old park in Greenville that would have landed in the railroad tracks if it hadn’t hit the top of the light pole.

Williams did an interview in his later years and it went something like this. “What do you think you would hit if you played in the majors today?” Williams said “Maybe .280”. “Really? That much lower than your career average?” Williams, “Yeah but remember I’m 75 years old “

Don't forget, Ruth missed five years as a pitcher. He would have had way over 800 home runs and probably 400 more ribbies. His 1921 the greatest single season of any hitter.

There was no DH then. He hit for himself. And I would bet that he hit a lot of home runs while pitching.

A friend of mine illustrated Ted Williams book on how to hit a baseball. He said the thrill of sitting is a soda shop in Boston listening to Williams explain how he approached hitting was an experience of a lifetime. My friend was a wonderful artist who also played baseball at the University of Miami.

You do have to admire Williams' military service. An aside he refused to wear a batting helmet when they were mandated. Because of Ted, they gave the current players a waiver if they didn't want to.

Yes ... Ted's service as a Naval Aviator in the Marines was certainly something that should be honored. He was indeed a great patriot. Having great eyesight is beneficial for both pilots and baseball players!

Aside from the lying and gambling, the way he chased records would keep him off my list.
His years as a player/manager where any other manager would have cut him inflated his numbers at the expense of his team.
It's not a good look.

I was in the stands with my family when Chipper went yard on him 2 Times in one game . . . His other at bat that game against Randy was an F-8 with the ball being caught against the wall!!!

Matt my opinions are similar to all those expressed . . . but here are three I dearly loved watching play the game . . . "Say Hey" Willie Mays . . . "Arriba", " The Great One" Roberto Clemente . . . "The Human Vacuum Cleaner", "Mr. Hoover", the winner of 16 CONSECUTIVE Golden Gloves, Brooks Robinson . . .
They may not be the Greatest Ever, but I absolutely loved these guys!!!
