How long before Amarius Mims rolls over on Kirby?

Jan 19, 2021, 8:39 PM

UGA had better start their own "Tennessee style" in-house investigation before the NCAA starts theirs. Ask SMU how it worked out for their pay for play schemes.

NCAA is toothless now, when it comes to doling out penalties

Jan 19, 2021, 8:49 PM

Not a chance in #### a SMU type penalty will ever be used again!

NCAA is weak as water. If any one fights them , like North Carolina , they won’t Persue the case. Probably slap Tn on the wrist and cut a few scholarships since they got rid of coaches . Coaches will move on to Alabama with no penalty

Take the UNC and LSU approach..

Yep, the NCAA investigations are laughable now. The least amount of resistance from a school and they roll over.

TN hired Mike Glazier as its attorney, and he has been the advisor for infractions to the NCAA for a long time. Glazier worked for Mike Slive defending cheating schools long before Slive became SEC commissioner.

While Slive was SEC Com, he advised his schools (like SC) what to do when caught; find a scapegoat, admit to small things, deny major violations, self probate, and forfeit a couple of scholarships. Glazier would then advise the NCAA that the school had properly punished itself. That would be it.

TN will probate itself and forfeit a few scholarships for several years. Pruitt was their scapegoat, and they are rid of him and his contract. Nothing more will happen.

or just keep lying...

in spite of all the evidence against you in the hope that sooner or later someone will actually start believing the lies.

Agreed. Don’t know if people have forgotten or never knew, but SMU was found guilty of having a payroll and after they were found guilty of having a payroll they continued to pay their payroll. Also, SMU attempted to stonewall the NCAA at every turn, completely uncooperative. The NCAA never intended to completely destroy SMU’s football program, but that was the result. SMU used to play in the Cotton Bowl, now they play in stadium of about 40,000 and they rarely fill it. After the death penalty, SMU’s governance took an extremely dominant position over SMU athletics and they have never relinquished that position. SMU deserved what they got, they practically dared the NCAA to do something.

SMU actually got caught three different times within a short period. If they had stopped cheating after being caught the second time, their program would have continued.

Back then, every school in the old SWC was cheating like crazy.

The problem with SMU...

Jan 19, 2021, 10:05 PM

was, not only did they lie about what was occurring and flatly refused to cooperate with the NCAA during the investigation, they continued to cheat (i.e., paying more than 20 players and their families) while on probation for cheating, and then encouraged, paid, and intimidated witnesses to lie on their behalf.

Two former players that SMU had stopped paying for various reasons (injuries that ended their playing careers, substance abuse issues, loss of scholarships, etc.) got mad and started talking. After that, the dominos really started to fall.
